- Summary
Supervises and assists in the work of a small crew in the Construction and Maintenance of a wide variety of public works projects or jobs.
- Essential Functions
- Supervise a small work crew; assist Construction and Maintenance foreman in planning work to be done; maintain time cards;
- Estimate materials, manpower, and equipment needs for various projects;
- Assist work crews in street maintenance work including sealing cracks, patching holes, repairing paving cuts, and operating salt spreaders during icy weather;
- Maintain equipment, and insure that proper tools are brought to each job;
- Operate trucks, street sweepers, front end loaders, crackseal machines, or distributor; assist in the setting up of traffic control devices or baricades;
- Assist in employee selection, evaluation, and disciplinary activities;
- Perform related duties as directed.
- Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three years of experience in public works Construction and Maintenance; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical exam requiredValid current Commercial Driver's License
Pipeline Maintenance - Able to obtain Class C Water license and Wastewater II distribution license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 3 years of hire.- Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods and techniques of public works Construction and Maintenance;
- Proper safety practices.
- Supervise others;
- Estimate material, manpower, and equipment needs for various projects;
- Follow oral and written instructions;
- Keep simple records;
- Read and understand maps and blueprints;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Perform Construction and Maintenance activities related to public works
- Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
- Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces
- Frequently walk and stand during the shift.
- Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift.
- Frequently push and pull objects.
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
- Rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing.
- Reach above, at, or below shoulder height.
- Frequently coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
