The Job

2023 Vacancies - Immediate need to hire!

The Innovation and Technology Department (ITD) is recruiting for Computer Operators III.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Operate an enterprise server and print environment; read job schedule sheet and release job according to priority, availability of peripheral equipment, and sequential processing requirements.
  • Monitor an enterprise server environment for critical events, operator intervention codes, abend codes, and job completions.
  • Maintain records of abnormal processing terminations and job completions.
  • Work with various teams for after-hours support.
This is the advanced working level in the Computer Operator series. Incumbents perform the most complex computer functions and are expected to independently operate, on a rotating basis, the master console, coordinate associated peripheral equipment, and resolve technical problems encountered.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Work Hours: Incumbents are required to be available to work ALL SHIFTS, which includes day, swing, night, rotating, weekends, and holidays. The County pays an hourly differential for those employees working night shifts.
Physical Requirements: Duties may involve lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; bending, stooping, and kneeling.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of experience operating an IBM Mainframe or Microsoft Windows Server environment.

-AND-

Education: Nine (9) semester (14 quarter) units of completed college level coursework in data processing, computer operations, programming or a closely related field. A list of coursework must be submitted if an Associate's degree has not been conferred.

Substitutions:
- One (1) additional year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

- Possession of either a Systems Z certificate or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, or closely related field, may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience and education. A legible copy of your transcript/diploma (unofficial is acceptable) or the Systems Z certificate must be submitted by attaching it to your application.

Desired Qualifications

Experience or knowledge with a high level of proficiency with the following is highly desired:

IBM z/OS - HMC, Microsoft Windows Servers, VTAM/TCPIP commands, DB2 thread monitoring, IMS commands, CommVault Backup software, CA-View, or Monitoring software, plus Data Center fire suppression, power, disk/tape mounting, tape library maintenance, cooling systems, and disaster recovery drills.
