ABOUT THE AGENCY:

The Oregon Secretary of State is one of three constitutional offices created at statehood. As an independent constitutional officer, the Secretary of State answers directly and solely to the people of Oregon.

The Secretary of State employs approximately 200 full-time, part-time, and temporary employees. The Secretary oversees the functions of seven program divisions: Archives, Audits, Corporation, Elections, Business Services, Information Systems, and Human Resources.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

In this role, you will help the public comply with Oregon campaign finance laws and rules. You will also help investigate possible violations of Oregon election laws and rules. This is accomplished in part by, but not limited to:
  • Teaching filers how to submit filings on ORESTAR (Oregon Elections System for Tracking And Reporting)
  • Explaining election laws and rules to the public and to filers
  • Reviewing filings for legal sufficiency
  • Conducting investigations into possible election law violations
  • Making recommendations about the outcome of investigations
  • Issuing civil penalties for non-compliance
  • Answering the public's questions about registering to vote and voting

Your application must demonstrate education and/or experience in the following:

Four years experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action, or decide compliance with or enforcement of program guidelines and regulations. Two of the four years must be above the technical support level.*

* "AboveTechnical Support level" means you had the authority to make independent decisions about your course of action.

Note: college-level course work may substitute for experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year, up to a maximum of three years.

If you are using education to meet the minimum qualifications of this position, you must submit a copy of all transcripts no later than time of interview to receive credit for college degrees or coursework. Credits must be from an accredited college or university. Transcripts must include name, coursework and indicate that a degree was obtained. On-line transcripts are acceptable.

  • Proven ability to promote a team-oriented environment by engaging in proactive understanding of elections issues, procedures, and program functions
  • Demonstrated understanding of supporting teams in a hybrid work environment
