Position Summary
The Communications Specialist coordinates all requests for service for the Air Care Team, the hospital's air ambulance helicopter service and the Emergency Transfer Center. Ideal candidates for this position possess strong customer service skills and are able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Our Emergency Transfer Center facilitates physician-to-physician referrals for patients that require emergency evaluation and/or admission into one of our hospitals. With the many unique specialties that are offered at our Orlando Health facilities, our Emergency Transfer Center is a central point of contact for outside hospitals to call and expedite the patient's arrival to the best care possible.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Performs primary flight following for all three Air Care Team aircraft and flight crew resource management for all.
- Provides the safe conduction of all flight operations for all heliports located on Orlando Health campuses both visually and via radio.
- Answers incoming requests for service and coordinates operations for both the Air Care Team and Emergency Transfer Center utilizing multiple telephones and computers, mapping software, radios, and other technology.
- Facilitates all requests for physician acceptance to Orlando Health hospitals via the Emergency Transfer Center.
- Triages and performs multiple critical tasks in a stressful environment calmly and collectively and completes tasks in a timely manner. Functions as a team member in all respects of the Air Care Team.
Other Related Functions
- Enters flight information into the program's database systems.
- Collects and finalizes patient transport records and admission records following each patient flight and forwards to Health Information Management and vendor's billing service.
- Demonstrates awareness of safety and legal issues and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Receives and processes incoming calls, guest, and patient requests.
Qualifications
Education/Training
High School Graduate or equivalent.
Medical Terminology course; or
State of Florida EMT license may be substituted in lieu of course.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in hospital setting; or
A State of Florida EMT license may substitute for up to one (1) years of the required experience.
