The Communications Specialist works with internal subject matter experts and external stakeholders to develop and implement public relations strategies for a Company serving customers 24/7/365. The successful candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and will be focused on creating and maintaining strong relationships with media, developing communications plans, and working cross functionally with peers on the PR team, employee communications and marketing. Interested candidates should be passionate about learning the energy industry and the Company's mission of providing world-class energy solutions to meet the diverse and unique needs of our customers and employees. Candidates must be fluent in reading/writing in both Spanish and English. This position reports to the Interim Director of Corporate Communication.
- Plan, execute, and measure public relations efforts in alignment with marketing and in support of CPS Energy's mission and the company's safety culture.
- Uses developmental knowledge to implement creative and effective local, regional and national public relations strategies to generate measurable coverage and enhanced reputation for the Company and its programs in broadcast, print and digital outlets.
- Serves as part of the rotating public relations and on-call team responsible for expediting media inquiries and monitoring the CPS Energy media phone line for a company providing services 24/7/365. Includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Participates with serving as a Company spokesperson in English and Spanish.
- Proactively pitch news stories to local, regional, and national media sources.
- Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure communications goals are met.
- Participates in offering alternative solutions for decision-making and recommends optimal choice(s) in support of organizational goals-objectives and budget constraints.
- Remains apprised of top industry trends in energy, public relations, and social media.
- Works within financial objectives/budget set by management.
- Initiate and/or oversee the development of media materials with consistency and alignment with overall messaging and objectives. Collaborate with media relations consultants and assist in managing agency work.
- In collaboration with other Communications and Marketing staff, develop and implement social media content, including coordination of content developed by institutional contributors and drafting Spanish-language social media content.
- In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Corporate Communications and the Director of Communications and other Communications leaders, routinely test and keep updated the Company's crisis communication plan. Serve as a member of the crisis communications team, including developing messaging and strategies to respond to unforeseen issues.
- Attend Company events or media opportunities, as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Extensive mid-level experience in media relations and developing communications for a variety of channels and audiences in a corporate environment, large public entity, utility or a public relations agency.
