Technology works as a strategic partner with our business to redefine how we do business in ever more global, complex, and dynamic financial markets. We have many award-winning technology platforms that help to propel our firm's businesses to be the top in the market.
Institutional Securities Technology division of Technology develops enterprise systems for Morgan Stanley's Institutional Securities Group business spanning investment banking/capital markets, research, Institutional trading across all markets and all asset classes including complex derivatives, prime brokerage, fund services and other funding/finance businesses.

Morgan Stanley Commodities delivers risk management solutions to our clients in global markets for Oil, Gas, Power, Metals, Agriculture and more. Commodities provide the materials to build plus the fuels to energize the world we live in, as well as the food we eat.

Our business is constantly changing - the world's energy needs evolve; new sources of energy are developed, markets relating to Climate Change and Carbon are created. As this happens, new trading products, market data, risk management tools and regulatory concerns, all evolve and require new technology solutions.

By joining the Commodities Technology team, you will have the opportunity to design and build the systems that support this fascinating business.

Our team is involved in all aspects of trading technology, from trade lifecycle to risk management, market data to physical and financial settlements. We work in a fully Agile environment, with close interaction with our users across the organisation. As a result, team members usually build up a good understanding of the business.

Position Description:

At the heart of our team lies our world class Risk Management capabilities. Our Risk Tech team partners closely with the trading desks, Strats/Quants, Finance and Risk Managers to deliver the platform that computes risk data, financials, scenarios, and regulatory requirements. This enables the business to dynamically grow and connects Commodities to firmwide stakeholders.

We are looking for energetic, motivated developers with experience in the domain of financial risk management. You will be a driving force in the evolution of the platform to meet business growth objectives and achieve regulatory excellence. Furthermore, you will play a key role in progressing the technology strategy; adoption of new technologies, progressing to Cloud, advancing our DevOps journey.

Working in Agile squads with close business partnership, a key aspect of the role is building an understanding of the trading business and risk management domain, followed by design and collaboration with team members both in New York and in our locations around the globe.

We support flexible working and are passionate about offering enriching career opportunities. This is a growing business and tech team, with great plans for strategic developments; it is an ideal time to join and help drive this journey.

- 7 Years' experience of developing with core Java, ideally in a risk systems environment in financial services. Direct experience of Commodities Risk is obviously advantageous, but not essential.
- Demonstrate good understanding of OO principles, design patterns, n-tier architecture
- Proficient in Agile development methodologies & understanding of DevOps Integration
- Relational database skills (SQL, Sybase, DB2, Oracle)
- Experience in these technologies is helpful, but not essential: Scala, Python, Perl, Shell, C#, AngularJS

- Comfortable developing on Linux
- Good problem solving, and communication skills who can work effectively in a team

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $100,000 and $150,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
