SUMMARY:

The collector is responsible for notifying customers of delinquent accounts by telephone and/or mail. Collect deposits, payments or fees for delinquent accounts. Maintain collection and tax search records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by supervisor and/or Trustco Bank’s Board of Directors.

• Performs daily collection calls to delinquent customers and ensure compliance with debt collection laws and regulations.
• Prepare bankruptcy packets in compliance with bankruptcy laws.
• Prepares delinquency letters in compliance with regulations and timing requirements.
• Prepares foreclosure and judgment files for manager’s review.
• Searching county websites or books for delinquent taxes in accordance to regulations and timing requirements.
• Preparing letters in accordance to tax search procedures.
• Logging information in excel formats.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Well organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work to time sensitive deadlines.

· Ability to work well independently and in groups.

· Working knowledge with Microsoft Office Programs; Excel and Word.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Prior collection call experience is a plus.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS:

This is a full time position. Office hours vary and is based on department needs. Generally, Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm. Additional work hours may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL:

Occasional travel using personal vehicle. Valid driver’s license required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace; bilingual skills a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, including but not limited to company policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
