Position Overview:
Heritage Bank currently has an exciting opportunity to join our organization!
We are seeking a collection specialistwho will be responsible for performing collection services on delinquent accounts in accordance with policies, procedures and compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and the Fair Debt Collection Practices. The successful candidate:
- Prepares collection correspondence and follows up on delinquent accounts.
- Reviews payment lists, maintains departmental files, and prepares paperwork.
- Contacts credit bureaus for customer reports, checks customer references, updates addresses, and gathers additional account information as required.
- Contacts customers regarding delinquent accounts and verification of repair work prior to releasing insurance checks, lost checks and/or payments.
- Ensures customer payments are properly credited and/or applied to account of record.
- Prepares status reports of assigned delinquent accounts and collection activities, in a timely manner, and as requested by management.
- Orders liquidations and repossessions as needed.
- Prepares extensions as requested and approved by management.
- Contributes to the success of the department with willingness to share in all department responsibilities and provide back- up assistance, as required or assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year recent customer service, clerical and/or office support experience, demonstrating working knowledge of general office administration practices and procedures - required.
- Recent experience in a lending support and/or collections role in a financial services industry - preferred.
- General knowledge of terminology and documents relevant to assigned area - preferred.
- Provides an exceptional level of quality service for internal/external customers; responds to customers' needs, questions and concerns in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
- Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills, including effective questioning strategies, influencing, and negotiation skills with the ability to negotiate in both cooperative and hostile environments; and ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
- Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to assigned area, to include general working knowledge of the laws and regulations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices and Privacy Acts.
- Basic mathematical skills with an understanding of debits/credits and interest calculations.
- Strong problem-solving, decision making, organizational, data review and time management skills to meet commitments and deadlines with moderate supervision.
- Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.
- Competent use and understanding of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
Work Environment:
- Climate controlled office environment.
- Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions and frequent employee and customer contacts and interruptions during the day.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule and/or extended hours, as needed.
Physical Demands:
- Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports, and sitting throughout the day.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line telephone, photocopier, scanner and facsimile which often requires dexterity of hands and fingers with repetitive wrist and hand motion.
- Typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, stooping, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials.
- Occasional lifting 5 - 10lbs., (files, boxes).
