Targeted therapies work by attacking cells that express particular proteins on their surface. Unfortunately, both diseased and healthy cells often express the same proteins, resulting in collateral damage to healthy cells.
At Vor Bio, we engineer hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to lack a biologically redundant target protein, then transplant these cells into the patient.
These eHSCs give rise to generations of new healthy blood cells that are effectively shielded from targeted therapies so that only the remaining cancer cells are killed. We are also developing our own CAR-T cell therapy using T cells from the same healthy donor who could potentially provide HSCs for our shielded stem cell transplant and thereby, avoid issues of donor-mismatch. We believe our CAR-T cell therapy may enable more potent and durable responses post-transplant.
Vor Bio is aiming to cure blood cancers through our novel platform combining HSC biology, genome engineering, and targeted therapies to unlock treatment options previously unavailable to patients. Who we are looking for:
Vor Bio is currently seeking a driven Co-op to join their Process Science team. This role presents an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to delve into the intricacies of HSC biology and apply their expertise to enhance the health and yield of the eHSC product. The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for learning new techniques and possess a keen eye for identifying areas of improvement and optimization within the existing process.
Within the dynamic environment of the Process Science group, collaboration with both Research and Process Development is integral. Together, the team is dedicated to propelling projects into the CMC space, with a dual focus on enhancing the quality and yield of current products while pioneering innovative processes for future programs.

Key areas of responsibility:
- Acquire a broad understanding of HSC biology and apply experimental methodologies such as CFU, ELISA, and flow cytometry to characterize and comprehend the eHSC drug product.
- Conduct extensive literature searches to identify pertinent research findings and effectively communicate these discoveries, potentially offering valuable insights to enhance the yield and quality of the eHSC product.
- Maintain meticulous electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) records detailing experimental procedures and outcomes, ensuring transparency and accessibility for team reference.
- Actively engage in designing, implementing and analysis of experiments contributing to informed decision-making processes of the group.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS coursework or previous co-op experience in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
- Prior experience with cell culture and ELISA is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams is preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and a keen eye for literature are highly desirable.
- Experience and knowledge of HSCs and gene editing technologies are preferred.
- Experience with software tools like GraphPad and Microsoft Office is preferred.
