Under moderate supervision, the Clinical Veterinary Technician works with the veterinary and animal care teams in all aspects of clinical veterinary care and the overall health and wellbeing. The technician works with a myriad of animal species to support team goals. The incumbent must demonstrate agility and accountability to provide treatment regimen solutions for various health statuses and work to enhance overall animal wellbeing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides state of the art medical care with well-developed technical ability to assist the veterinary and animal care teams with a variety of animal species.
  • Works collaboratively to assists in the examinations, sample collections, and treatment administrations.
  • Possesses a holistic view of animal wellbeing and husbandry.
  • In a team environment, creates influence to improve animal welfare and further process improvement.
  • Works with veterinary team to implement comprehensive health programs for animal populations.
  • Assists with programs related to disease surveillance, biosafety, environmental monitoring, etc.
  • Assists site leadership with facility compliance inspections to maintain a state of constant facility inspection readiness.
  • Assists veterinary team in development and implementation of a technical veterinary training program for technicians, research associates, and investigators concerning clinical procedures.
  • Assists the veterinary team with portions of site and cross-site training programs.

Requirements:

  • AS degree in veterinary technology or equivalent and state issued veterinary technician license.
  • Must possess ALAT or have the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months in the role.
  • Must have a minimum of one year of clinical experience. Exposure to animal research is a plus.
  • Physical Demands / Surroundings:
    • Ability to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, noisy, humid, etc.) with a high priority focused on biosecurity, attention to detail, and timeliness.
    • Individual must demonstrate persistence and energy in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment.
    • Must be willing to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures.
  • Visual Demands:
    • Must be able to read and see clearly.
    • Prescription eye wear is allowed.
  • Temperament / Mental Requirements:
    • Must be able to maintain even temperament when working with animals.
    • Position requires willingness to learn at a rapid pace.
    • Individual must be results oriented, cooperative, and a systematic thinker.
    • Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary matrix environment and value the importance of teamwork.
    • Must exhibit sound judgment and function well in a team environment.
  • Other Proficiencies:
    • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills in English, sufficient for accurate transmission of information internally.
    • Requires ability to interface and build working relationships with team members at all levels of site organization.
    • Must be proficient in basic computing skills.
  • Attendance / Schedule:
    • Attendance requirements are based upon BI AH general attendance policies.
    • Must be able to work weekends as needed.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
