POSITION SUMMARY:
At Natera, our goal is to make personalized genomics and medicine a reality at scale. Clinical genomics focuses on the relationship between genes, and their variants, to clinical outcomes. As an R&D Clinical Genomics Scientist, you will be part of a small, focused team that is using science in order to build, support, and maintain a portfolio of germline and somatic genetic testing offerings, from panel concept to patient report. We shape Natera's genomic tests via gene-disease curation, creating and automating scalable variant interpretation workflows, and providing expertise on a wide range of projects and products.
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the nuts and bolts of genetic contribution to disease, relentless about optimizing product quality, and most of all is excited about having their work used in the clinical care of millions of patients.
TheClinical Genomics Scientist, R&D supports product development activities for gene curation and reporting process development. They are tasked with applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential products and problems, and can work well in an exciting, fast-paced environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work primarily with Clinical Genomics R&D to support gene curation and reporting product development activities in a multidisciplinary team including laboratory directors, medical affairs, and product managers.
  • Participate in curation of gene panels and panel launches.
  • Support new product development by applying variant- and gene-level expertise.
  • Learn and understand the science behind ongoing research projects while simultaneously completing increasingly complex tasks as specified by the manager/director.
  • Perform duties with close to moderate supervision; perform other tasks as specified by the manager/director.
  • Develop plans, generate and advance new ideas; execute moderate complexity projects.
  • Produce high-quality, reproducible results to a high technical standard.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized records, worksheets, and notebooks; summarize data in spreadsheets, graphs and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, tissue or cellular biology, genetics, or closely related field; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience post-BS.
  • Clinical gene and/or variant curation experience strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must Have:
  • Familiarity with genetic variant curation and/or interpretation of clinical relevance based on the AMP/ACMG guidelines, and/or familiarity with gene-disease association curation based on the ClinGen Gene-Disease validity guidelines.
  • Familiarity with databases, tools, and resources commonly used in interpretation of genomic data.
  • Ability to critically review and apply data from scientific literature particularly clinical case reports and experimental studies.
  • Strong written communication skills to produce clear, concise and correct technical documentation.
  • Ability and desire to communicate in cross-functional teams with members from varying backgrounds.
  • Team player, self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.
  • This position can be home office based - 100% remote.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
