Job Description:
Function of Position:
Reporting to the Dental Studies Program Director, Classroom Support Coaches (CSCs) are academic staff who work with students in the dental assisting and/or dental hygiene programs to help them to develop effective learning strategies to become successful learners. Classroom Support Coaches help students with discipline and/or clinical specific content. Delivery of support may require on-campus and/or distance modalities and are program and student directed.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
To foster the development of independent, intentional learners, help students understand and use effective learning strategies, and promote student learning and competence through:
Primary Functions:
- Collaboration with lead instructors to identify specific student needs
- Individualized instruction and supervision
- Utilization of effective teaching modalities
- Promotion of critical thinking
- Promotion of problem solving
- Nurtured rapport
- Promotion of independence
- Development of time management skills
- Establishment of a collegial learning environment
- Connection of classroom and clinical instruction
- Learning phases (developing, competent, exemplary)
- Development of cognitive and physical connections/techniques
- Development of rapport with students, peers, and faculty
- Adherence to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
- Promotion critical thinking and problem solving
- Identification of and support with learning gaps related to discipline-specific content
- Documentation of student support
Secondary Functions:
- Support the student and instructor in the lab/conference/clinic/classroom
- Assist with homework, lab/conference/clinic/classroom, and miscellaneous learning activities to include setup and breakdown

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Certificate in Dental Assisting with current New York State Licensure and CPR Certification
- Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene with current New York State Licensure and CPR Certification
- Evidence of up-to-date continuing education
- Technologically savvy
- An educational philosophy
- Clinical content knowledge
- Didactic content knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous teaching experience
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Pay Rate: Pay rate depends on degree level and prior experience. Pay range is $38/hour to $45/hour
Weekly Hours: Up to 24 hours per week and no more than 910 hours per year
