Position Overview:
As a Class A Journey-worker III at Digi-Key, you will be expected to perform and supervise electrical work, under the Master Electricians guidance within Digi-Key's facilities, ensuring that electrical work is completed safely and compliant to NEC (National Electrical Code). In this role, you may on occasion, work directly with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction to ensure electrical work is properly inspected.
This position will improve and maintain existing electrical systems, as well as perform new electrical installations, with primary focus on the conveyor systems. You may guide and oversee the work of other apprentices or journeyman electricians or direct and train workers to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures to ensure tasks are completed to code. You may also oversee the work of Registered Unlicensed Electricians performing maintenance work on a material handling system. If a task is larger than the onsite team is capable, you will work with the Master Electrician to coordinate with contracted individuals.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform and oversee routine electrical installation and maintenance in Digi-Key's facilities, including but not limited to: adding/removing fixtures, pulling wires for new installations, hooking up office cubicles, replacing light fixtures, troubleshooting and repair/replacement of sensors, contactors, power supplies, motors etc. on the conveyor systems working autonomously within established procedures.
  • Ensure electrical work, both existing and new, complies with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship and meet as needed with Authority Having Jurisdiction to ensure work is properly inspected.
  • Assist the Master Electrician with planning ahead for appropriately sized service and panels for future expansion including backup generator system.
  • Track and maintain records of work performed.
  • Advocate for safety at all times, working in a safe manner, using proper personal protective equipment.
  • Assist the Master Electrician strategically plan and coordinate with outside contractors as needed to complete larger tasks.
  • Support learning and development of apprentice electricians and Resident Maintenance Technician's
  • Assist with coordination of annual training to maintain licensure for electrical team.
  • Quickly and diligently respond, track, record and triage any problems or emergency calls and requests.
  • Provide emergency breakdown and specialized maintenance service support; work within restrictive timelines to complete reactive repairs.
  • Coordinate with Operation teams to determine best timing to complete work.
  • Effectively communicate any issues or outages that may be planned.
  • Create strong effective working relationships within Digi-Key and help enable them to provide first-class service.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of the tools and equipment supplied.
  • Professionally interact with on-site management keeping them informed of repair and maintenance progression while addressing any outstanding concerns.
  • Demonstrate ownership of issues to achieve a timely resolution.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the best use of skills and capabilities throughout daily activities.
  • Required knowledge of, and willingness to use and train others on the use of Powered Industrial Vehicles, Scissor lifts, Forklifts, and other equipment commonly used in the Electrical Field

Experience and Education:
  • Must have a current license as a Class A Journey worker Electrician in the State of Minnesota
  • A current Minnesota Class A Masters Electrician license or ability to get one preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of full-time Electrical experience
  • Ability to interpret and work with electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Knowledge of 480V, 120V, and 24V systems
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience electrical planning for large facilities
  • Theoretical and operational experience in the repair, troubleshooting of PLC-based machinery and control systems is preferred.
  • Ability to provide expertise and guidance that contributes a unique interpretation or analysis of our systems.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and be able to disassemble and assemble parts onto equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities; generate potential solutions to complex problems leveraging curiosity, creativity, and open-mindedness in solution development.

Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Weekends and nights if required by workload.
  • Physical requirements may be: Sitting, squatting, walking, reaching out to arm's length, reaching over-head, lifting between 50-100 pounds, and reading
