Show off your technical skills and creativity by developing new designs to improve the life and safety of County residents. As our Civil Engineer, you will provide traffic engineering/management expertise in the design, review, and approval of projects. You will also participate in multiple designs ranging from multi-discipline transportation improvement projects to traffic studies to improve mobility and safety.

We Require
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- Two years of professional traffic engineering/traffic management experience, including reviewing and designing plans, specifications, and estimates
- Experience using MicroStation and InRoads or OpenRoads Designer
- Registration as a professional engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six months of employment
- Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire

- Traffic engineering experience with design, review, modification, and approval of signing, pavement marking, landscaping, and temporary traffic control plans
- Experience with the Federal Highways - Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (AASHTO)
- Experience with SignCAD, AutoTURN, Synchro, HCS, and other engineering design software
Job Contributions
- Prepare conceptual plans and reports for traffic engineering and roadway safety projects
- Prepare detailed traffic engineering design plans in conformance to national engineering standards for roadway safety, applicable laws and regulations using MicroStation and InRoads or OpenRoads Designer software
- Represent the transportation systems management and operations division - traffic design branch in transportation improvement projects (TIP) meetings and ensure traffic engineering principles and safety standards are adhered to
- Assume the technical responsibility for coordinating, preparing, reviewing phases and components of projects, including traffic engineering reports, calculations, plans, and special provisions in accordance with the MCDOT Project Development Manual
- Review project deliverables from consultants or in-house designs for scope, quality, and cost
- Maintain project files and documents, design decisions, and project estimates for various evaluations and projects
- Apply technical proficiency and exercise initiative and independent judgment to make traffic engineering recommendations
Working Conditions
- Combination of working in a typical office environment seated at a desk and occasional fieldwork with exposure to all types of weather (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain)
- Ability to drive, climb steep slopes, and maneuver in heavy vegetation and difficult terrain while taking notes and photos of various site conditions
- Some work duties will involve sitting, standing, walking, driving a vehicle, bending/kneeling, reaching, and wearing protective gear indoors and outdoors
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
