Job description

Position Overview

The Construction Manager is responsible for the oversight of the General Trades project craft personnel supporting all projects throughout the region working directly with Project Managers, Project Executives and clients from conception to completion. He/she is directly in charge of managing supervisory and craft field staff in order to bring the project to successful completion.

 

Duties include managing, in conjunction with project leadership, labor issues, development and execution of construction means and methods, oversight of work plans, safety, and management of construction risk and ensure quality construction standards are met. He/she must also be able to direct construction workers and Subcontractors for projects that do not require Project Manager or Executive oversight to bring the project in safely, on time, and on budget. 

Job Description

Major Duties & Responsibilities

 

- Responsible for the safety of all assigned employees and subcontractors to ensure the safe execution of all activities, including the strict adherence to company safety policies and programs through the communication and enforcement of the Skanska Safety and Health Management Program

- Manage and coordinate craft personnel and resources on larger projects in conjunction with Project Managers and/or Project Executives

- Negotiate collective bargaining agreements with assigned union trade(s) with the Vice President of Construction/Project Executive.

- Ensure craft development and mentoring to build bench strength, succession planning and recruitment. - Manage small projects without direct oversight from a Project Manager and/or Project Executive

- Assist with estimating and preconstruction efforts on larger projects.

- Estimate small projects with key clients.

- Collaborate with Vice President of Construction/Project Executive on use of local labor agreements or Project Labor Agreements.

- Communicate with Vice President of Construction/Project Executive on jurisdictional disputes.

- Manage project kickoff, prepare project work plans, assist with procurement, and ensure performance of project including, project status, schedule adherence, cost control, change management systems, client concerns, quality, and safety.

- Maintain strong relationships with business agents, key clients, subcontractors, designers and consultants

- Assist Service Department as needed.

- Quarterly Assessments and Annual Performance reviews of Key Craft.

- Strong Project Controls acumen to support project quantity progress, costs and schedule

 

Education & Experience

 

- Bachelor of Science Construction, Business, or Engineering preferred, but experience may be considered in lieu of

- More than 10 years of construction experience with an emphasis on labor relations

- Strong knowledge with Civil construction

- Excellent knowledge with all aspects of construction safety

 

Work Environment/Job Conditions

 

This job is performed both in the office and in the field. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment, systems and conditions is required. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to tool and computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
