Job description

BASIC PURPOSE

The Kettle Coordinator is responsible for the hiring, scheduling, and supervision of bell ringers for the Red Kettle Campaign.  Additionally, the Kettle Coordinator monitors the performance of the bell ringers and deals with any personnel issues that may arise.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist with communication with bell ringing locations prior to the season’s start.
  2. Advertise, post and promote the bell ringer positions for the annual Red Kettle Campaign.
  3. Plan, coordinate and schedule bell ringer information and recruitment fair.
  4. Assist with interviewing potential bell ringers.
  5. Assist with producing name tags for all bell ringers, issuing of jackets, aprons and bells.
  6. Daily schedule and place bell ringers at various bell ringing locations.
  7. Provide drivers with schedule and names for all the bell ringers on each route.
  8. Monitor the performance of all bell ringers, encouraging them to bring in the designated minimum amounts in order to ensure profitability.
  9. Keep track of the progress toward meeting the year’s income target for the Red Kettle Campaign.
  10. Address any concerns and/or complaints about any of the bell ringers.
  11. Respond to all bell ringer questions such as schedule, payroll issues in a timely manner.
  12. Communicate regularly with the Corps Officers regarding the progress on campaign goals, bell ringer concerns or personnel issues.
  13. Communicate any payroll issues with supervisor.
  14. Regularly communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule as many volunteers as possible.
  15. Prepare an annual Christmas Brief at the end of the Red Kettle Campaign.
  16. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees and workers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must have a pleasant personality and the ability to communicate well with the public.
  2. Must present an appropriate appearance (i.e., clothing should be neat, clean, and pressed, not loose-fitting or sloppy, and in good condition; shoes must be clean and in good condition). Due to cold weather, you will want to dress warmly.  The red windbreaker must be worn at all times along with an identification badge.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  The individual must not participate in any form of substance abuse or show evidence of use while performing his/her duties or while present on Salvation Army property.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
  2. Must be 21 years or older.
  3. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  2. The employee frequently is required to sit and talk or hear.
  3. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  4. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
