Achievement First (AF) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that currently supports 41 public charter schools in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. AF has consistently been rated one of the top charter school networks in the country, and we are still learning and growing. The majority of our students are Black and Latinx children from low-income families who will be the first in their families to graduate from college. We currently employ more than 2,000 staff - 47% of whom identify as Black, Latino/x, or Multi-racial - who collectively educate nearly 15,000 students in Brooklyn, NY; Providence, RI; and New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hartford CT.

We are loo king for a strategic and results-driven Chief Strategy and Growth Officer to join our team.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Strategy and Growth Officer will be responsible for developing a strategic approach to network growth, consolidation, and expansion efforts to lead the organization into its next phase. Working with and through the leadership team, the Chief Strategy and Growth Office r will lead the implementation of a multi-year strategic growth plan that furthers the realization of our vision and mission. Integral to the multi-year growth plan will be strategic oversight of student recruitment, enrollment, and retention. The Chief Strategy and Growth Officer will ensure that AF is focused on its core product offering and is directing its resources and human capital to support its vision and mission through ongoing review and adjustment through the annual planning process.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Strategy and Growth Officer will:
  • Lead the multi-year growth planning efforts driven by robust frameworks, streamlined processes, and cross-functional collaboration to regularly review AF's portfolio of schools with a data driven lens, leading to opportunities which could include expansion into new markets , merger opportunities with other charter organizations, and/or consolidation of our network presence to ensure we are fulfilling our mission to serve our communities and expand into new communities. Develop robust frameworks to manage the processes for all stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic direction to and oversee our student recruitment, enrollment and retention, team and initiatives to ensure that we are actively inviting new families to join our community, we are actively managing our enrollment process, and working to ensure that families stay with Achievement First, using data and feedback to make staying with AF compelling. This will entail understanding how we best reach and leverage families, working with our school leadership to ensure families experience the AF value proposition.
  • Manage the annual planning process across all Network Support functions to ensure the seamless planning and execution of the school year life cycle. This will require working integrally with our school leadership, finance, HR, facilities and operations.
  • Partner with the Chief of Staff to ensure the strategic planning process is aligned with annual planning and growth strategy.
  • Assume other strategic growth planning projects as required.


Skills You'll Have

An ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in the following areas:
  • Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to handle complex projects autonomously, serving as a guide for effective strategic management across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with data analytics and comfort using data to inform critical operational and strategic decision
  • Experience within K-12 education is ideal but not required

In addition, the following characteristics are required to be successful on this team:
  • Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) along with a minimum of 8 years of experience in school or organizational leadership in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving skills
  • High level of grit and determination coupled with a strong sense of humor
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent oral and communication skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
  • Regular travel, including occasional weekend or evening work, is required to and among our schools at various locations (New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island). There is a preference for candidates based in these regions.


Compensation

Achievement First sets salaries through a lens of equity, and based on the requisite skills, education, and experience relevant to the role. The salary for this position is $211,325. In order to uphold our commitment to equity, Achievement First does not negotiate pay. Achievement First offers to all regular, full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match, and paid Family Leave.
