Job Description
Primary Functions:
- Assists in the non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medications. Such duties to include, but are not limited to the following: properly operate all functions of the prescription pharmacy computer system including patient entry, drug selection, pricing, and correct SIG information. This position provides appropriate customer service support activities associated with the pharmacy.
- Collaborates with physicians and nurses to establish drug administration schedules for patients.
- Manufactures and prepares sterile products.
- Prepares billing statements and processes patient credits and payments.
- Maintains required record-keeping.
- Maintains an established inventory of commonly used supplies and ensures medications have not expired.
- Present products prepared or manufactured to a Pharmacist prior to issuing to patients.
- Familiarizes and complies with all VNA policies and procedures.
- Meets standards of behavior expectations.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to the Privacy Officer (Director of Quality, Education & Risk Management) immediately. Failure to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice in Illinois required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification (or eligibility) as a pharmacy technician by completion of an accredited technician training program or current enrollment in an accredited college of pharmacy. Individuals not meeting this requirement may be hired contingent on achieving certification within one year of technician application.
- Computer literacy.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish/English as follows: Reading - Required. Written – Required. Speaking – Required. This position verbally communicates in Spanish with many patients throughout the business day. Must be able to interpret and translate.

- Ability to drive a car.
