Salary Range
Pay Scale: $17/per hour
Note: Position's wages are contingent upon terms and conditions outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications:
- Has successfully completed a basic home health training program approved by the New York State Department of Health and possesses written evidence of such completion.
- Must be able to speak, understand, and write English.
- Must be able to read twelve points or larger type.
- Must be able to hear adequately with no more than an amplifier on the phone and speak in a manner understood by most persons.
- Must be able to lift, stoop, and bend effectively so as to be able to perform the above listed job functions.
Responsibilities:
Personal Care - assist with:
- Bath (bed, bath, tub, shower)
- Oral Hygiene (care of teeth, and mouth)
- Care of hair (shampoo, dry and comb)
- Care of nails (except for cutting nails)
- Skin care/lotion massage
- Dressing
- Positioning and turning of patients
- Toileting
Treatments after demonstrating competency to an RN - assist with:
- Non-sterile dressing
- Urine testing
- Transfers & ambulation (use of rehabilitative devices-walker, wheelchair, crutches, cane)
- Donning prosthesis Exercise program
- Use of special equipment
- Application of binder and other supports
- Vital signs as ordered (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)
- Cooling sponge bath
- Medication schedule/reminding patient to take medications
- Simple catheter care inclusive of care of the drainage bag
- Specimen collection (stool & urine)
- Change ostomy equipment
- Simple soaks & ice bag
- Breast care for the nursing mother
- Oxygen
Homemaking and Nutritional support - assist with:
- Meal planning and pre preparation inclusive of modified diets
- Serving and feeding patient
- Measuring & recording I&O when necessary
- Formula preparation for infants
- Linen change
- Laundry
- Light housekeeping (make beds, dust and vacuum, tidy kitchen and bathroom, wash dishes after meals)
- Grocery shopping, banking and essential errands.
Administrative
- Respects patient rights including confidentiality at all times.
- Records each activity performed on each case on a daily basis.
- Reports any incident or change in condition of patient or environment to the supervisor immediately.
- Submits duty sheets on timely basics.
- Follow all appropriate agency policies.
- Attends at least TWELVE (12) hours of in-service education annually.
- Provides all information required for the maintenance of his/her personnel record.
- Follow instructions, is punctual and attendance is acceptable.
- Cooperates with supervisor and with patient/family.
The HHA is NOT permitted to:
- Administer medication
- Give a soap solution enema or a fleets enema
- Do gastric lavage or gavage
- Change sterile dressing
- Insert/remove inner cannula of a tracheotomy
- Apply ace bandage or elastic stocking
- Colostomy or catheter irrigations
- Vaginal irrigation (douche)
- Render any care not included in the nursing care plan.
- Make medical or nursing judgments.
