Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Work with the YMCA Sr. Program Director to plan, organize and implement the Day Camp program at Cecil County Family YMCA. Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of staff and campers. Responsible for overall Day Camp operation: tone-setting, communication with parents, camper behavior management, scheduling, quality of activities, staff evaluations and coordination of transportation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Incorporate and model our YMCA Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Oversee implementation of summer camp program including curriculum development, daily activities, schedule, transportation and special events, recruit, hire, supervise and train camp staff in cooperation with the branch leadership and Association Camp Director.

2. Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, co-workers and supervisors. Connect with each staff member and maintain a positive relationship throughout the summer and establish a harmonious and supportive tone among all Day Camp Counselors.

3. Ensure the physical, emotional and social safety of campers and work with staff to create an environment in which all campers are respectful of each other and the guidelines of camp.

4. Report to the Branch Leadership/Sr. Director any concerns about the behavior of a camper and report any suspicions of child abuse immediately; document accordingly on an incident report.

5. Build relationships with Day Camp parents and use them as resources to provide insight into their child's behavior.

6. Stay informed of staff choices, especially involving discipline, to ensure that campers receive fair and appropriate treatment.

SEASONAL YMCA DAY CAMP DIRECTOR (Cecil)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduate or equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.

2. 2 to 4 years of experience in a direct leadership role in the areas of summer camp, after school, teaching or relative experience.

3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, camper psychology, etc.

4. At least 21 years of age and with a good driving record (no more than 2 points on license) in order to drive the Y bus. Must complete Redwoods Drivers training and all other required insurance and licensing expectations.

5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. YMCA of the Chesapeake and MDH regulations: Pre-hire Criminal background check (FBI and MD), Child Abuse fingerprinting (CJIS)

2. MDH staff health record stating fitness for working in a day camp and childcare program

3. Medication Administration Certification completed prior to first day of camp/employment

4. Attends all required staff meetings and 40 hours of pre-camp trainings as assigned by YMCA leadership staff

Cooperatively lead in house staff training as assigned by YMCA leadership
