The Procurement Category Manager plays an important role in enabling Procurement’s objective to help deliver the wider Performance Brands (PB) strategy.
For designated purchasing categories, the Procurement Manager will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of strategic sourcing, contracting and vendor relationships across the Branded Products division
This is achieved through:
- Working with business stakeholders to understand business priorities and requirements, and to ensure category strategies and implementation aligning with those needs.
- Partnering with key stakeholders to create innovative sources of value through knowledge of the supply market and latest thinking within the field.
- Leveraging new technologies via category strategies and robust relationship building and performance management.
The Category Manager role will:
- define category strategies by performing analysis and coordinating key inputs e.g. supply market analysis, cost modelling, benchmarking, supplier management activities.
- develop deployable, innovative, concise contract strategies within an overall category strategy to empower and direct the procurement function in execution of the contracting lifecycle.
- provide the business with a supply base that supports safe, reliable, and compliant operations, and that also delivers the innovation.
Key Accountabilities
- Communicate effectively through various channels using a range of styles and approaches to gain commitment and support from diverse stakeholders internally and externally to help achieve business outcomes, create acceptance for decisions, build consensus or resolve conflict. Recognize, anticipate, and effectively deal with existing or potential conflicts at an individual, team or strategic level with priority focus on external market, liaising with the Senior Manager as appropriate.
- Generate communication content to ensure that category specific messages (such as status, plans, compliance, and market insights) are effectively disseminated across the organization
- Build out a pipeline of procurement initiatives for the business to drive short and long term value.
- Support the development of a Supplier Relationship Management framework for Strategic Suppliers.
- Ensure the appropriate due diligence and risk mitigation measures are in place for Supplier/Partner Selection and contractual protection in conjunction with wider business functions ie legal.
Necessary Attributes
- Excellent communicator
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers
- Ability to multi-task and highly organized
- Solid negotiation, persuasion and contract management
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Experience
- Skilled in category strategy development and execution, supplier management, and sourcing, contracting and contract management
- Basic Application in tactical procurement
- Experience in e-sourcing or other e-procurement tools is desirable.
- Good working knowledge of P2P processes, and SAP system
- or the following categories will be an advantage; Oil & Gas; Retail, Supply Chain, Marketing, Indirects, Financial Services, IT.FMCG
- Experience of successful delivery working in virtual and cross functional teams
Preferred
- Skilled application in:
- Commercial negotiation.
- Influencing and stakeholder management.
- Organizational and project management.
- Financial and market analysis.
Educational background
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or related equivalent business discipline or a comparable degree program.
- MCIPS/ISM qualification, or at stage of pre-qualification, desirable
