Job description

Sequoia Pathway Academy is looking for a Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to develop and maintain a competitive, comprehensive boys basketball program. This also includes overseeing the lower levels to build consistency and continuity across all teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and ability to develop a competitive program in line with the mission of the School/Athletic program/Edkey and existing resources on campus & in the local community. We are a new member of the AIA and will be competing in the 2A conference starting this fall 2020.  

The importance of a coach is to educate students through participation in a competitive sport.  An athletic sports program should be designed to enhance academic achievement and should actively promote opportunities for academic success. Each student should be treated with the utmost respect, and his or her welfare should be considered in decisions by the coach at all times.  Here a Pathway we know that Coaches play a vital role over students  and we are searching for Coaches that will  be an example at the highest level.  Coaches are expected to uphold  our mission statement and our core values. Strong ethical and integrity will be evident in all interactions with students, officials, athletic directors, school administrators, state athletic officials, and members of the media or public. 

Duties as a Coach 

  • Be knowledgeable of and enforce federal, state and district policies, rules, regulations and procedures. 
  • Follow guidelines for student eligibility  
  • Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants in practice areas, locker rooms, and on buses/vans. • Support the     athletic program by encouraging student participation in all athletic programs. 
  • Ensure accurate inventory, storage, care and collection of all school athletic equipment.  
  • Adhere to the coaches handbook and use of facilities/management of keys  
  • Schedule, organize, supervise and proactively control the environment related to practices, competition and pre/post/off season events.  
  • Knowledge of sport being coached.  

 HEAD COACH (In addition to the items listed above) • Ensure proper supervision and conduct by all assistant coaches  

Required Qualifications:

* IVP Fingerprint Card
* High School Diploma/GED required
* Must be at least 21 years of age
* Possess a current CPR certification
* NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
* NFHS Concussion in sports
* NFHS First Aid, Health & Safety
* Meet all coaching qualifications, course requirements and certifications
* Possess recommendations from principle or coaches
* Substitute certification or teaching certification preferred, but not required
