Overview:
The Benefits Specialist administers employee benefits in all operations. Reviews and works with proper parties to update plan documents and communications. Provides expertise in the defined compliance areas.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee COBRA and HIPAA administration for employees and maintain other aspects of benefit continuation of participants.
- Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits to ensure Company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act.
- Partner with Benefits Manager to ensure all health, welfare, and retirement plan legal filings are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Partner with Benefits Manager on the preparation and distribution of benefit communications, including enrollment guides, posters, and other employee facing communications.
- Assist Benefit Manager in conducting research and preparing recommendations regarding compliance for all plans.
- Provide escalated support of Family and Medical Leave Act.
- Use benefit Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, and other reference materials to address and resolve escalated benefit plan inquiries related to plans from employees in a timely manner.
- Assist with the development and distribution of annual benefit statements to Company employees.
- Complete surveys and other sources of information relating to Company Benefits Plans, analyze results of surveys, and develop specific recommendations to maintain Company s competitive position in the market place.
- Ensure that existing and new benefit programs are adaptable to standard computer and reporting systems.
- Prepare assigned monthly billing and oversee payments to carriers and vendors.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor s Degree and three years of experience or equivalent education and related experience.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations relating to benefit plans and all applicable laws relating to benefit administration (including COBRA, HIPPA, and ERISA), and be able to effectively work within company policies and state/federal laws.
- Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or adding machine.
- Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping.
- May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 15lbs.
