Job description

Come be a part of our growing HR team! The Doe Run company is currently seeking a Benefits Specialist to assist with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-long term disability, and 401(k) retirement plan. This position is located at our Corporate Headquarters in St. Louis, MO.

Responsibilities:

1. Fields questions from division human resources staff, employees, and retirees regarding benefits claims and issues.

2. Performs quality checks of benefits-related data and provides data entry & audit support as is necessary.

3. Reviews and administers FMLA, short and long-term disability leaves, COBRA, and direct billing in HR systems.

4. Processes life insurance claims, 401(k) loan transactions and maintains retirement records.

5. Assists HR Managers with tuition reimbursement approvals and length of service awards.

6. Assists analyst on processing invoices for benefits/vendors and works with the broker to provide regular benefits cost reporting.

7. Other duties or projects as assigned.

Frontline/Technical:

  • Completes tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (Environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field preferred.
  • May consider high school diploma (or equivalent) and equivalent experience in human resources.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office especially Excel, Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG), or other HR Systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail and results-oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information and provide assistance to employees and retirees.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Knowledge of laws related to benefits, confidentiality, and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly exposed to office noises in a standard office setting.
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, talk, hear; frequently required to expend concentrated attention and clarity of vision for close computer work.
  • Requires clarity of vision and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Rarely required to lift up to 15 pounds of boxes for open enrollment or mailings management.
