Madison School District Position Title: TOA-Behavior Intervention SpecialistLength of Work Yr: 225 contract daysSalary Range: Teacher Salary Range; Placement based on education and experienceDepartment: Student ServicesReports To: Director for Student Services SUMMARY:The purpose of this position is to assist special needs students with emotional disabilities, by responding to a range of behaviors and supporting the students in acquiring de-escalation strategies. The Behavior Interventionist would utilize a curriculum that teaches students social skills in an individualized explicit manner while working with teachers to promote positive teacher student relations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:Provides and monitors program work in intervention to meet the individual needs of students.Demonstrates knowledge and implementation of skills based on the Principles of Behavior.Understands and supports district wide PBIS plans.Provides PBIS coaching and support to each site.Delivers Professional Development to stakeholder groups around positive behavior support and relevant topics. Continues to be current in the area of Special Education, behavior management, PBIS, current research and practices for children with emotional disabilities and behavioral disorders.Develops a continuous process that engages students in appropriate meaningful discussions, feedback and expectations appropriate for the student during the intervention processDevelops creative solutions to maximize a safe learning environment which targets student skills deficits and focuses on alternative behavioral strategies.Maintains and supports federal, state and district rules, regulations and policies at all times.Communicates clearly and concisely with parents, staff and students.Develops a repertoire of de-escalation skills and understands and utilizes conflict resolution skills to assist students in regaining instructional control.Designs appropriate assignments that focus on teaching replacement behaviors that are aligned to the student's IEP goals, cognitive level, age and culture.Utilizes appropriate communication skills in the corrective teaching/feedback to help students identify negative and/or coercive behaviors and help them replace them with pro-social skills.Utilizes intervention data to make appropriate recommendation changes in behavior plans.Collaborates proactively with team members regarding information relevant to the students becoming successful self-managers.Maintains and interprets data on individual students to include number of referrals, reason, level of acuity in order to develop quarterly reports for staff and the Administration.Integrates supports and help develop the positive motivational components through developing a positive reinforcement schedule.Initiates and participates in professional development activities to further enhance content knowledge specific to PBIS and the principles of behavior.

Models and coaches the principles of behavior techniques to instructional staff.Attends to other duties as assigned to support the Madison PBIS model.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Arizona Teaching CertificateMA Degree in Education, school psychology or related field - PreferredMinimum 5 years of experience working with children - PreferredBoard Certified Behavior Analyst - PreferredClear Understanding of the Principles of BehaviorAbility to work with technology.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Success in collaborating with peers, school staff and administrators. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Arizona Teaching CertificateMA Degree in Education, school psychology or related field. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Maintains valid certifications, fingerprint card and Appropriately Certified status.

Observes teacher calendar and all Madison School District policies. Salary to be determined yearly according to Governing Board approved range. EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated by the Director for Student Services.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or students in English.

Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students in English. Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Governing Board. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:.

Ability to work in a friendly manner and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
