Job description

Under the direction and daily supervision of the Youth Services Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Coordinator will be responsible for the supervision, behavior management, and programming of the participants in Afterschool Program. The Coordinator will be responsible for meeting YMCA and facility expectations and developing successful relationships with staff, parents, participants and volunteers associated with the program. The Coordinator will be responsible for budget, staff hiring and supervision.

Principle Activities

  • Plan and implement all components of afterschool programming, including staffing, budget, equipment control, enhancement programs, parent programming and communication.
  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times.
  • Responsible for daily record keeping and adherence to all guidelines.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training as required by the Youth Services Director.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing family nights, sleepovers, full days and parent/child activities.
  • Responsible for meeting the individual needs of all the children in the program.
  • Ensure the daily cleaning and maintenance of the space and/or facility, help to create a safe program environment each day, set up and take down included, while meeting quality walk through standards.
  • Responsible for incorporating the Christian Mission of the YMCA in all program components and work relationships.
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, train, evaluate and reward various part-time staff and volunteers providing assistance within assigned areas.
  • Control and maintain supplies and inventory.
  • Maintain positive relationships and open, positive communication with parents, YMCA personnel, site personnel, participants and volunteers.
  • Ensure program staff maintains operational standards and employment agreement.
  • Complete assigned duties within assigned timelines.
  • Assist in planning and implementing full day programs including staffing, scheduling, registration and communication.
  • Create and implement a staff morale and retention plan including special events, birthdays and monthly activities.
  • Create and implement a Communication plan for program participants, staff and site personnel.
  • Take on additional responsibilities in support services for the total program.
  • Assume any other duties as assigned by the YMCA administration.

Requirements:

  • This position requires an individual with the ability to work well with children in cooperation with other staff and parents.
  • He/she must have strong decision making skills, versatility, initiative, and strong human relation skills.
  • Staff must understand and follow program guidelines and maintain quality standards.
  • Staff must have excellent supervisory capabilities.
  • He/she must have at least 3 years experience in childcare and possess minimum certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, BBP and Safe Driving Course.
