Technology & Systems Department
The Technology & Systems department drives technological innovation for the company and advances the technology strategy to support global growth. This includes IT, Software Development, OT / Automation Systems, and business process improvement. At Vantage, we are very hands on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes, so we can make informed purchase decisions. The Technology & Systems department participates in designing each of our new data center building's networking infrastructure, including but not limited to diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet-me room (MMR) hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross connect panels...), wireless AP coverage, etc.
We rely on extreme collaboration with Sales, Construction, Operations and Corporate Functions to drive simplification, establish global standards with continuous improvement and speed to value. Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a high-reaching, diligent, hands-on construction interfacing Automation Construction Engineer to lead building automation efforts on new development and existing data center upgrade projects. The Automation Construction Engineer will partner with Design and Construction project teams on new and existing data center development projects. The role will be responsible for providing Automation Construction, deployment, and operational handover support. This includes handling and supporting construction deliverables, quality inspections, commissioning, and issue management throughout the lifecycle of the project.

• Primary Automation Systems team Construction interfacing resource.
• Support pre-bid planning, coordination, and execution strategies to ensure quality construction work.
• Leads automation project execution activities, which includes partnerships and collaboration with:
• Construction management team regarding automation scope of work development, system integrators, field execution and scheduling requirements.
• Support Sales, Design Engineering, and Services to develop project requirements based on market demands or customer requirements.
• Support construction management team, ensuring system integrator quality and execution accountability.
• Lead and facilitate automation issue mitigation to support expedited delivery schedules.
• Support and handle reporting progress metrics to leadership.

Essential Job Functions

• Leads automation projects that align with business vision, strategy, and deployment within the company.
• Assist in the definition of automation project scope and objectives, involving all relevant partners and ensuring technical feasibility.
• Handle multiple Automation Construction project scopes, schedules, and partner relations across the regions.
• Drive all aspects of automation activities related to new and existing project development through each of the design, construction, and service delivery phase of the project.
• Run automation design deliverable package coordination and updates with all applicable construction partners.
• Ensure alignment to the Vantage Automation Execution Playbook and global standards by the General Contractor and the systems integrators.
• Provide automation system issue(s) oversight and mitigation interface during commissioning activities.
• Attend applicable FWT (Factory Witness Tests), software bench testing and on-site point to point and functional testing activities for various projects.
• Complete regularly scheduled site visits to assigned sites under construction to evaluate commissioning progress, ensure scope alignment, and auditing CxA documentation for turn over readiness.
• Ensure automation project design deliverables, programming, and commissioning milestone dates are adequately incorporated and led within the master construction schedule.
• Participate and attend weekly and/or daily construction meetings for each applicable construction site. Held a regular weekly meeting with System integrator and switch to daily sync once the project is in on-site testing and commissioning phase.
• Coordinate and facilitate automation project Post-IST Hand-off Meeting with site Services team.

Duties

• Collaborate with the automation design, engineering, construction, and services teams.
• Support in developing and handling Automation Construction execution strategies.
• Develops task prioritization and scheduling for prioritizing and project timelines.
• Provide automation equipment, installation, and startup oversight and support.
• Support and coordinate Automation Construction purchasing and applicable subcontractor requirements.
• Evaluates progress on project(s) and tracks changes to schedule.
• Develops and maintains standard communication and technical documentation for Automation aspects of project implementation (RFIs, Transmittals, Submittals, Change Requests, Project Plans, Status Updates, etc.)
• Operations support using PagerDuty after hours on-call support on a rotating basis.

Job Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Building Automation System (BMS) construction, commissioning, or systems integration.
• BS in related Engineering or Construction Management fields preferred, but not required based upon experience level.
• Data Center or Mission Critical project experience preferred but not required.
• Proven success in project management with PMP certification preferred, but not required.
• Experience in instrumentation and controls (I&C) preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Project, MS Office, and MS SharePoint
• Travel required is expected to be 30% but may increase over time as the business evolves.
