The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.Qualifications: You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this vacancy announcement. In addition to meeting basic requirements above applicants must also meet the Minimum Qualifications indicated below for each grade level:GS-07: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or 1 year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Specialized experience at this level includes:
- Researching and analyzing information from a variety of sources such as, programs, case studies, and/or policies to draw conclusions and write reports; AND
- Writing informational reports that reflect statements of fact rather than opinion.

I have a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or I have 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related OR I have a combination of the above-defined education and experience which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position successfully.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Position Telework eligibility is determined by management based on position duties during the recruitment process. Employee participation in telework on a routine or situational basis is determined by management primarily based on business needs. Employees participating in telework are subject to the terms and conditions of the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General Telework Program. Employees are required to come in the office 2 days a pay period.
Education: A. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
or
B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
- A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
