Position Details

Information Technology and Security at The University of Tampa has a position available for an Associate Network Engineer. Under the direction of the University's Senior Network Engineer, this position will be responsible for customer support and service of the university network. This position will require maintaining comprehensive network documentation and assisting with configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting network routers and switches. Support the wireless Network equipment, troubleshoot related connectivity issues, and provide reports of degraded service to ensure a seamless wireless experience. Assist with initiatives involving network enhancements, network management, monitoring network performance, and implementation of network security.

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support clients, including faculty, staff, and students, and assist with network-related issues affecting academic programs and service delivery.
• Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure that supports the educational and administrative needs of the University.
• Assist in maintaining comprehensive network documentation using Visio, Microsoft Word, and notepad. Assist in maintaining network inventory and coordinating with Asset Management.
• Coordinate inspection, documentation, and maintenance of network closets and cabling.
• Support and maintain internal routers and switch configurations. Schedule and coordinate network configuration, firmware, and software updates as appropriate.
• Utilize network management software to monitor system performance at the hardware and software levels. Prepare and analyze reports on network traffic.
• Coordinate installation of wireless equipment.
• Provide technical troubleshooting and diagnosis of all network components as necessary. Identify network-related issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with coordinating hardware and software service providers in scheduling preventive maintenance, upgrades, and repairs and documenting these activities.
• Support network security initiatives and ensure appropriate security policies are followed.
• Involvement with testing and maintaining disaster recovery plans and procedures.

• Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in an enterprise network environment in support of network equipment from Cisco. Preferred
• Minimum 1 year higher education experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Solarwinds ticketing system.
• Certifications preferred: CCNA, Net + and other network certifications.
• On-call rotation, occasional weekend and out of normal work hours availability required.

Competencies

• Hands-on experience using Cisco network management tools, Fluke testers, DNA Center, ISE, DNS, and DHCP.
• Ability to identify critical network-related issues and think creatively and strategically in facing internal and external challenges.
• Experience in network bandwidth management.
• Effective oral and written communications skills.
• Interest in keeping current with industry trends and software tools related to network administration.
• Ability to quickly learn and accurately work with various hardware/software systems.
• Must be able to interact with staff and customers in a professional environment.
• Must be highly proficient at troubleshooting and detailed network documentation.

• Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On-call rotation, occasional weekend and out of normal work hours availability required.
