Description

Reporting to the Senior Director for Development, the Associate Development Officer will develop strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding leadership annual giving donors ($5,000-$25,000+) to support the strategic objectives of Oglethorpe University. This role works collaboratively within Advancement and cross-

departmentally, working in concert with all stakeholders to maintain consistent and transparent relationships with all donors.

The Associate Development Officer engages donors and prospects through a variety of mediums, including but not limited to face-to-face meetings, phone calls, mailings, and emails. The Associate Director would be part of a fundraising team that builds a robust pipeline of donors from annual giving to major gift levels.

The Associate Director will be a proven leader who values traditions, collaboration, innovation, and creativity, and is well versed in current relationship-driven fundraising and alumni engagement strategies and tactics. Successful candidates will possess an authentic commitment to a liberal arts education and the capacity to articulate passionately its value and relevance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward qualified prospects and donors, managing a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified relationships and conduct and/or coordinate face-to-face visits, and other activities with donors to secure gifts between $5k-$25k+
  • Meet required metrics including outbound contacts, face-to-face or virtual visitation, proposals, and dollars raised, and demonstrate a keen ability to advance donors relationships toward a meaningful gift
  • Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts, and use of the CRM system
  • Take an active role in team meetings and retreats and partner with advancement colleagues and colleagues among the broader institution to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified, cultivated, and stewarded.
  • Demonstrate fundraising acumen and productive leadership with unit leaders, and support the development of school/unit strategic planning and goal setting
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors seeking to crack the code of what compels each donor to give substantially by asking the right questions and the ability to personally adapt as needed to meet the needs of donors
  • Work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts and moving potential donors through the moves management cycle, and routinely engage university leadership and other current donors in peer-supported prospect identification, visits, and gift closures within the Oglethorpe community.
  • Collaborate with team members within Advancement and broader institutional colleagues to analyze portfolios and strategize upgrades, and with Corporate/Foundation colleagues to cultivate individual gifts from corporate partner executives
  • May develop and oversee writing/production of appropriate fund-raisingmaterials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports
  • Contribute to the overall success of the division by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Undergraduate degree required
  • Related Experience: 3+ years of progressive fund-raising responsibility including complex major and planned giving experience

Preferred:

  • CFRE or similar relevant certification
  • Masters degree
  • Experience with Raisers Edge software
  • University experience in Athletics, School of Business, or Fine Arts

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Desire to build personal relationships on behalf of Oglethorpe and with the objective of raising funds to support the organization.
  • Management experience with a history of achievement in engagement and fundraising. Desire to build and motivate a team to effectively build, promote, and engage others.
  • Strategic thinker and self-starter who is results-oriented. Experience leading strategy development as well as implementation of fundraising programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; strongly developed written and oral presentation skills.
  • Desire to represent Oglethorpe out in the community, attending events and other social gatherings, building personal relationships on behalf of Oglethorpe and with the objective of raising awareness and funds for the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, especially in the efforts to successfully recruit, develop, and retain top-tier talent.

  • Technologically savvy and adept at using Microsoft Office, Raisers Edge, and other software tools.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position is in a normal office environment typically working at a desk or table.

The use of normal office equipment will be required. At times the individual may be required to work an alternative work schedule. As stated above, Oglethorpe supports the use of our Remote Work Policy.
