POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Assistant Vice President of Total Rewards is responsible for the leadership and management of the compensation, employee health and welfare benefit programs, and employee wellness programs functions for UT Southwestern Medical Center. The incumbent will provide leadership to the teams that are accountable for the continuous development, design, implementation, communication, and maintenance of all compensation, employee rewards, health, welfare, and wellness programs. The AVP of Total Rewards will be an experienced professional with deep knowledge of all matters concerning HR departments and possess a strong operational focus on building, operating, and continuous improvement of delivering exceptional Total Rewards services and inspire all on the team to also deliver. This role manages programs that will enhance the Total Rewards services delivered while also focusing on a strong strategic view forward.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or any other related field and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including a minimum of five (5) years prior-related Total Rewards leadership experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of overall HR and the specific Total Rewards function, including both compensation and benefits/rewards and all related department processes, is required.
  • Prior experience working with executive/senior-level leadership is required. Work requires prior experience with top-tier HR platforms, including the ability to assess and define the strategic direction of human resources IT solutions through close partnerships with HR stakeholders and information technology partners.
PREFERRED
  • Master's degree in business focus or human resources preferred.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Professional and/or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), and/or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) preferred. Prior experience in health care and/or academia, along with physician and faculty compensation preferred.
  • Experience with Human Capital Management software, including PeopleSoft 9.2 environment, preferred.
JOB DUTIES
  • Directs the strategic planning, development, implementation, and administration of Compensation programs for all employee populations. This includes:
  • Organizational design
  • Job/role design
  • Determining market-pricing strategies
  • Developing variable pay programs
  • Developing salary structures sensitive to internal and external requirements
  • Developing effective administration procedures to process all pay programs
  • Directs and develops the processes for ensuring that the pay practices for UTSW are competitive and support the institutional compensation philosophy along with current business needs, goals, and objectives. This includes managing external systems to gather and analyze market data for all possible UTSW jobs.
  • Directs, develops, monitors, and reviews the implementation of competitive compensation strategies resulting in the attraction, retention, motivation, and rewarding of a high-performance workforce.
  • Directs the evolutionary development of systems and technology to support all Total Rewards needs related primarily to Compensation and Benefits administration.
  • Participates in strategic planning for the organization. Provides leadership and consulting support to executives and management on Total Rewards programs that reinforce strategic objectives.
  • Has overall responsibility for the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of all UTSW compensation programs to align the organization's employee and business strategies, objectives, and competitive marketplace position.
  • Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of compensation structures, total cash compensation programs, incentive, variable pay and deferred compensation programs, and compensation policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with and serves as an adviser to leadership on matters about broad-based compensation, management incentive plans, and executive compensation. Develops strategies and programs that enable UTSW to effectively compete for and retain talented human capital in support of its strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees the administration of UT System health and welfare benefits and retirement plans as well as the execution of annual benefits open enrollment and other periodic enrollments. Works with partners to resolve complex employee benefit and welfare plan issues referred by management and employees.
  • Has overall responsibility for the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of all locally sponsored (non-UT System) UTSW employee reward and benefits programs to align the organization's employee and business strategies, objectives, and competitive marketplace position.
  • Partners with UT System in the research, development, and implementation of new benefit plans or revising existing benefits plans, including drafting and reviewing requests for proposals (RFPs), evaluating proposals/vendors, and partnering with benefits consultant in reviewing negotiated contracts, in accordance with laws and regulations governing employee benefits.
  • Oversees UTSW's Wellness programs for all locations, including directing various wellness committees in organizing activities such as lunch-and-learns, health fairs, mammograms, flu shots, etc.
  • Responsible for employee compensation and health and welfare communications in partnership with UT System and HR Communications. Prepares/reviews written communications, videos, web pages, enrollment materials, and conducts benefits conference calls, revises benefit summaries, revises benefit orientation documents, and ensures distribution and receipt of documents.
  • Ensures appropriate audit processes for quality control of all programs within the scope of responsibility. Addresses equity issues within departments and the system. Ensures data integrity and accurate reporting of all data generated within areas of responsibility.
  • Partners with operating unit executives and our HR team to develop and implement programs that maintain alignment with system objectives but allow for meeting unique needs at the local level.
  • Develops, implements, and provides guidance on the appropriate policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the institution.
  • Advises management in policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions.
  • Manages staff; makes hiring decisions; provides coaching, training, and mentoring; manages performance; and determines staffing needs.
  • Oversees departmental budget development. Reviews and recommends budget proposals and administers expenditures of budget.
  • Works collaboratively with all UTSW administrative support functions (e.g., Audit, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Information Resources) as well as the UT System and State Auditor's Office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in a hybrid-office model with the reservation to move to primarily in-office area at any point.
  • Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer or his/her designee.
