POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Educational Foundations at Montclair State University is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Educational Studies in Urban Education, to begin in September 2024. Educational Studies in Urban Education is a rapidly growing field of study dedicated to serving diverse communities.
We are seeking a dynamic collaborative colleague who will play a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing growth and success of our Educational Foundations programs while upholding program rigor and fostering student success. Responsibilities include: teaching courses at the undergraduate level in our Educational Foundations for Elementary Teachers program and quantitative masters and doctoral courses offered by our department; conducting an active research agenda and publishing scholarly work; serving on dissertation committees; and providing service to the University and professional community.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and administering innovative graduate programs that can draw from our large pool of undergraduate students. Additionally, this individual will spearhead new department initiatives that directly address market demand for non-traditional education programs grounded in Educational Studies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a PhD in Educational Foundations/Studies or closely related field - e.g., Urban Education, Policy Studies, Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Foundations (Philosophy, History, Psychology, or Sociology of Education) completed prior to June 2024. A well-defined research agenda, evidence of scholarly activities, and success in or potential for high quality peer-reviewed publications and grant-funded projects; demonstrated aptitude for or evidence of excellence in teaching; demonstrated ability to work with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. The department offers courses designed to prepare public and private school educators, administrators, community educators, and policymakers to meet the educational demands of our increasingly diverse society. Along with the charge to serve professional and pre-professional educators, the department seeks to develop in students from all disciplines a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between education and culture, as well as tools of inquiry that are valuable in community contexts.
The department offers a BA in Educational Foundations for Elementary Teachers, a robust degree program serving over 525 undergraduate students. Educational Foundations offers graduate certificates in Gifted and Talented Education, Educational Assessment, and Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning. In addition, the department offers masters' and doctoral courses in research methods for programs in the College for Education and Engaged Learning.
The department also houses the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (since 1974), the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project (since 2012), and the Creativity and Aesthetic Lab, and has recently become the home of the Nel Noddings Collection.
