ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Foundation Dining Services, position is accountable for assigned dining operations related to Dining Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating resources, expertise, and services to ensure the operations needed to support the dining operations. The Assistant Director will oversee the coordination of internal and external resources and services at each dining facility assigned.

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
  • Develops and administers annual budget and business plan for assigned operations in a timely manner, and submits to Associate Director for review and discussion.
  • Assesses food, labor, and controllable costs on a weekly basis, quickly adjusts services to meet demand based on financial performance, customer feedback, and internal/external variables.
  • Develops and implements student and part-time leadership and supervisory programs aligned with budgetary and operational goals.
  • Accountable for the overall marketing strategy for area(s) assigned.
  • Plans, develops, communicates and implements departmental goals and procedures.
  • Acts as the primary company representative to areas assigned.
  • Takes steps to address and resolve facility and operational issues in a timely, professional manner.
  • Ensures compliance with established laws, regulations, policies, and procedures within assigned area.
  • Acts as a liaison to outside services providers and vendors.
  • Assists in identifying the need for various training programs. Ensure such training is assigned, completed, and documented for applicable employees.
  • Identifies the need for new concepts, assists in the development of pro-forma assessment of the profitability and viability of new concepts.
  • Ensures compliance with established laws and regulations within assigned area.
  • Monitors and enforces standards regarding facilities presentation, food quality, food safety, physical safety, security, customer service, and Company policies. Ensures compliance with all Health and Safety Codes.
  • Collaborates with the Dining Services Leadership Team to establish and implement corrective action plans to address operational deficiencies.
  • Ensures written Standard Operating Procedures are established and trained where needed.
  • Ability to adhere to a regular work schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY:

Directly supervises staff; responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Through subordinate supervisors, ensures timely corrective measures are implemented to address operational deficiencies and human resource issues.

Additional Duties:
  • Ensures operations submits all accounting documentation per Foundation guidelines
  • Holds subordinates accountable for proper handling and safekeeping of cash according to guidelines.
  • Actively participates in educational, manufacturing or trade association functions and conferences.
  • Represent the Foundation through various campus committees, programs, and events.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree and 7 to 10 years related experience working in Dining Services at a university, and/or equivalent combination of education
  • A minimum of 4 yrs. management experience
  • Contract negotiation experience
  • ServSafe manager certificate or equivalent required.
