Assistant Director, Bendwood
- Master's degree or higher, required.
- Principal Certification, required.
- T-TESS Certification required at time of hire or the ability to obtain such certification in the first 60 days of employment based on availability of courses.
- Compliant with state-required GT training hours.
- Gifted and Talented certification, preferred.
- Special Education certification, preferred.
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate, preferably in Early Grades Education.
- Completion of the Texas Reading Academy, or the ability to complete within one year.
- Exemplify instructional leadership in the areas of gifted/talented, special education, and early childhood.
- Understand best practices and developmentally appropriate curriculum, learning environments, and instructional strategies.
- Evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret data and address needs of school and community.
- Demonstrate strong and effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a classroom teacher working with gifted and talented students.
- Leadership experience with gifted/talented, special education, or early childhood services.
- Leadership experience as an assistant principal.
Responsibilities:Instructional Leadership:
- Use data to inform instruction, improvements, and to take corrective actions.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
- Plan and provide ongoing professional development and support for staff.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members; encourage their active involvement in decision-making processes.
- Provide for two-way communication with director, staff, students, parents, and community.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff.
- Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts.
- Assume responsibility for all aspects of the overall SPIRAL program and the Early Childhood Special Education program.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research and data findings to promote program improvement.
- Supervise daily operations and activities.
- Maintain program facilities.
- Maintain accurate required records.
- Implement efficient and effective systems and procedures.
- Assist with safety inspections, safety drills, and other safety-related activities.
- Organize, maintain, and assist with daily schedules and transportation of Bendwood programs.
- Coordinate with campus principals to provide continual improvement of SPIRAL services.
- Interview, select, and orient new staff.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
- Make recommendations regarding personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal.
- Confer with staff regarding their professional growth; work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
- Ensure students are adequately supervised.
- Implement student management system that results in positive behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Conduct conferences regarding student and school issues with parents, students, teachers, and home campus leadership teams.
- Plan staff development for all district gifted and talented staff, including SPIRAL and ECSE staff.
- Ensure all staff meet the gifted and talented 30-hour initial and 6-hour update training requirements.
- Demonstrate awareness of community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Work with parents, PTA, and home campus principals to establish strong relationships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
