Assistant Buyer / Merchant

Summary/Objective:

We're looking for an Assistant Buyer to help manage a department and assist buyers in daily tasks.

Essential Functions:

• Assist the Buyer and larger buying team with daily tasks as needed.

• Work with Sample Team on managing samples for the department.

• Supports the Buyers in all product selection, price negotiation and purchasing decisions of the Merchandising Department

• Manage formal communication for purchase orders and changes with vendors.

• Process all purchase orders, including coding and communicating the information to vendors.

• Help conduct weekly and quarterly business reviews to track and analyze merchandising results.

• Work with vendors and buyers to support negotiation of PO terms including cost.

• Update PO system for retail changes, cost changes and extension dates.

• Maintain and update Open-to-buy/recap sheets daily, weekly and monthly.

• Maintains Assortment tool for the department.

• Attends fit sessions with Vendors to make independent decisions on fit of product comments and/ or approval for the department.

• Communicate with Distribution Center on problems related to order shipping issues.

• Answer vendor inquiries

• Responsible for daily analysis of product sell outs to make decisions on chase inventory to book into.

• Organizes incoming P.P. and T.O.P samples and strikeoffs/ labdips to review and approve in a timely matter.

• Owns small portion of the department's business in assorting, analyzing historic metrics and performance to make competent buying recommendations and decisions

• Detail oriented and organized. Knowledge of excel and office a must

• Assistant buying or merch clerical experience preferred within a fast fashion company

• Ability to operate independently and make decisions on their own, while establishing strong working relationships with buyers and cross-functional teams.

• Strong, professional and effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines.

• Ability to adapt well to change in direction and priority in a fast- paced and deadline-oriented environment.

• Efficient organization, prioritization, and time management skills.

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to draw conclusions to make recommendations and decisions

• High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications

• Ability to make sound independent decisions on own that impact business and product.

Work Environment:

• Works in an indoor office/home office environment, temperature controlled

• Sit for long periods, standing and walking intermittently

• Use office equipment such as computer, mouse, keyboard, printer

• Occasionally lift or pull up to 20 pounds

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in related field (or equivalent work experience)

• 1-3 years prior experience in retail merchandising

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills; demonstrated proficiency working with large data sets

• Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing at a professional level

An estimated compensation range for this position in the LA is: $63-70K. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
