Actalent is Immediately hiring for an Asbestos Analyst in Richmond, VA
Description:
Responsibilities include:
-Sample processing, documentation, and preparation.
-Analysis of bulk and thin-section slides for asbestos mineral fibers using PLM Polarized Light Microscopy
-Determination of optical properties and visual percentages for detected asbestos grains
-Quantification of asbestos present, and identification of additional natural/artificial sample components
-Document asbestos findings and characteristics in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
-Implementation of quality control procedures
-Adherence to lab safety protocols
-Adherence to EPA standards for asbestos identification
Requirements:
-Must have an undergraduate degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, related science, or PLM Asbestos training course
-Must have 2 years of PLM experience in asbestos testing
-Must adhere to lab safety protocols and implement safety measures such as fume hoods, PPE, and sample containment
-Must have good communication skills, be able to multi-task in high pace environment, and willing to work extended hours and occasional weekends when necessary

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
MUST HAVES:
-Must have an undergraduate degree in Geology or Environmental Science - bio/ chem are okay but must have experience to back it up due to lack of mineral based course work
-Must have 2 years of asbestos testing laboratory
-Must adhere to lab safety protocols and implement safety measures
-Must have good communication skills, be able to multi-task in fast pace environment, and willing to work extended hours and occasional weekends when necessary
Preferred, but not required:
McCrone or MICA training courses are a plus but not required
research experience within geology/ environmental course work
