Job Title: GALLERY AND ART STUDIO MANAGER

Department:Art Studio

Reports To: Director of Programming & Art

Rate of Pay: $60,000

FSLA Status: Exempt/Salaried

Shift: 5 days per week, 9am-6pm.

Weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events are required based on business needs.


SUMMARY

The Art Studio Manager demonstrates strong leadership by providing a motivating presence, planning strategically, and consistently refining operations to create new offerings and enhance the guest experience. Leads a professional team of artists to curate the Art Studio and Sundance Gallery to animate the guest experience. Oversee all artwork on property including the Sundance Group Art Program.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

MANAGEMENT

Oversee day to day operations of Art studio and Gallery.

Curate and install rotating exhibitions and gallery show.

Ensure hanging of artwork and retail displays are presented within Sundance guidelines.

Maintain a neat, organized, and properly stocked gallery and studio.

Create a welcoming presence for all guests of the Sundance Gallery and Art Studio ensuring classes set the stage for discovery of the artistic process.

Enthusiastically describe art and classes offered and encourage guests to participate.

Facilitate scheduling classes and communicate schedule with artists.

Exhibit knowledge of Art Studio services and products.

Instruct Art Studio workshops as needed to support Instructors.

Work closely with leadership to execute vision for growth and expansion of art within the resort.

Effectively communicate aesthetic and cultural opportunities within the vision and values of Sundance.

Work collaboratively with Marketing to promote Art Studio and Gallery programs and events.

Work with HR to secure Glass Blower visits and oversee glass blowing program in house and external.

Oversee online booking engine for all classes and activities within Art Studio

Help develop Lodging and Group amenities to promote Sundance art program.

Manage the Art Studio and staff with an engaging presence.

Support Sundance's environmental commitment by being good stewards of the land, reducing carbon footprint, and sharing Sundance's story of land preservation with guests.

Promote a culture of safety by regularly inspecting equipment and ensuring proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) by employees and guests.

Prepare and distribute bimonthly staff schedule based on employee availability and business needs.

Hire, train and develop staff of 14-20 employees including receptionists, art instructors, soap makers, and glass blowers.

Manage timekeeping records and execute accurate bi-monthly payroll and commission reports.

Evaluate needs, order and stock materials for daily art workshops in up to 10 various mediums.

Execute an accurate monthly inventory of gallery art and products.

Effectively communicate inventory needs, sales and commissions with consignment artists.

Create and manage the Art Studio budget.

Enter purchases in point-of-sale system, secure accurate payment with appropriate signatures and package guest purchases.

Prepare artwork for shipping and keep accurate records of shipped merchandise.

Utilize recycled newspapers, boxes, and packing materials for shipments.

Oversee process of wrapping soap and etching glass.

Attend all pre-conference meetings which have an Art Studio program.


ARTIST/SOCIAL PROGRAMMING STRATEGY

Create and implement Art Studio programs enhancing the art & cultural experience.

Attend art events, develop relationships, and maintain an active presence within the local art community.

Curate schedule of 12+ rotating exhibitions of artwork annually.

Work closely with guest artists to create successful demonstrations and monthly exhibitions which fulfill the vision of Sundance and work within the approved financial model for the gallery.

Work closely with marketing staff to promote events, artists and studio workshops.


SUNDANCE GROUP ART PROGRAM

Manages and oversees all aspects of the Sundance Group Art Program.

Oversees Sundance Group art inventory.

Oversees Sundance Group art condition reports.

Work closely with the Sundance Group and handle all communication as it pertains to artwork.

Communicate to the Sundance Group if any artwork will be relocated and document accordingly.

If necessary, communicate any repair work needed to the Sundance Group.

Execute the reframing of artwork where appropriate.

Oversee Art Tours that showcase the Sundance Group artwork to our guests.

Work closely with Resort Managers that display Sundance Group Art to set expectations and inspections.


ALL SUNDANCE REPRESENTATIVES ARE EXPECTED TO

Embrace and promote all facets of the Sundance Guiding Principles: vision, mission, service standards, and values.

Exhibit job and product knowledge to accurately support and promote all Sundance departments, amenities and programming ventures.

Be able to work a flexible schedule, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage time appropriately.

Possess the necessary social skills to work with a broad-based constituency and provide excellent service to all internal and external guests.

Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisor and direct instructors/guest artists and monitor time schedules.

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Complete all applicable paperwork for the above responsibilities and submit to HR in a timely manner.


ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position, for example: minimize waste, recycle, conserve energy, purchase and use sustainable products, educate co-workers/guests on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar environmental ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wildlife habitats. All employees are invited to participate in the Green Team and/or any Green Team sponsored events.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or BFA from four-year college or university (Studio or Art History Major preferred) and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. To perform this job successfully, the applicant will be a trained and practicing artist in an artistic discipline offered by the Sundance Art Studio. In addition, the successful candidate will bring to the post an appreciation of all artistic disciplines and significant contacts in those disciplines. While having a background in a specific arts discipline, the position requires a general aesthetic so as to meet Sundance guests wherever their point of contact with the arts has brought them.
