Art Handling Specialist II - NASM, Crozier

The role of Inventory Specialist in this long term project with Smithsonian Institutions is multifaceted. In this role you will work with the Head Registrar in tracking, recording, and reporting the assembly and installation of various air and space artifacts. This role requires you to work with Art Handlers, Aircraft Specialists, and museum representatives in a constantly changing environment.

  • Pay: $20.00-$25.00/hr

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week

  • Location: Lanham, MD

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct condition assessments of air and space artifacts and components

  • Report any changes in condition to artifacts or artifact incidents to the Head Registrar

  • Work closely with the Head Registrar to capture any changes to artifact move or assembly plans

  • Work with a team of Art Handlers and Aircraft Specialists to track, assemble, and install artifacts and components

  • Track shipments of artifacts of various sizes and conveyances

  • Update locations using a barcoding and scanning system provided by Smithsonian Institution

  • Follow previously established protocols and standards for the transportation, assembly, and reporting of artifacts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required

  • 2 to 3 years of artifact and Art Handling experience

  • Previous experience in collection management

  • Experience conducting condition reports on various types of art and artifacts

  • Understanding of industry standards for Art Handling and condition reporting including proper terminology for description

  • Familiarity with collection databases, such as TMS

  • Attention to detail

  • Willing to work in a constantly changing environment and as part of a team

  • Physical ability to help move large artifacts - 50 to 75 lbs.

  • Experience packing, installing, deinstalling, crating, and unpacking artifacts

Reasonably expected salary range: $42,100.00 - $52,700.00
