Job Description:
KION, located in the beautiful Monterey-Salinas market, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the role of Anchor/Managing Editor. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate, engaging, and compelling news content to our viewers while also overseeing the newsroom's operations and managing a team of journalists.
Responsibilities:
  1. Anchor News Broadcasts:

- Serve as the primary on-air talent, delivering news stories with professionalism, clarity, and credibility.
- Conduct interviews with guests, experts, and community members.
- Adhere to the station's editorial guidelines and maintain journalistic integrity.
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure visually appealing and engaging news presentations.
- Develop a strong rapport with the audience and represent the station in a positive and professional manner.
  1. Managing Editor Duties:

- Oversee the newsroom's daily operations, including story assignments, deadlines, and editorial decisions.
- Develop and implement editorial strategies to ensure the station's news coverage is comprehensive, balanced, and relevant to the local community.
- Lead editorial meetings to discuss story ideas, angles, and approaches.
- Mentor and guide the news team to enhance their skills, journalistic abilities, and on-air presence.
- Stay up-to-date with current events, emerging trends, and technological advancements in the media industry.
  1. News Content Development:

- Research and gather information from various sources to develop accurate and factual news stories.
- Write and edit scripts for news broadcasts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to station's style guidelines.
- Collaborate with reporters, producers, and photographers to develop compelling news packages.
- Review and verify facts, statements, and sources before presenting them on-air.
- Engage with the community to identify newsworthy stories and build strong relationships.
  1. Breaking News Coverage:

- Quickly respond to breaking news events and deliver live, on-the-scene reports as needed.
- Coordinate with the news team to provide timely updates and accurate information during developing stories.
- Conduct interviews and gather information from witnesses, officials, and experts during breaking news situations.
- Remain calm, composed, and professional while covering high-pressure situations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communication, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience as a news anchor, reporter, or managing editor in a reputable media organization.
- Strong on-air presence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and connect with viewers.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Knowledge of journalistic ethics, standards, and practices.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Leadership skills and experience in managing a team.
- Proficiency in using newsroom software, teleprompters, and other broadcasting equipment.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Pay Range: $60k-$80k annually. Based on experience.
