The Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina is seeking a part-time Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to work in the Neurology multidisciplinary ALS Clinic. The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for the screening, ongoing evaluation, and treatment of patients presenting with needs associated with the care and management of ALS.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
* Administer cognitive assessments for pseudobulbar affect, behavioral disturbance and cognitive disorders reported in ALS
* Perform FBCI (Family Based Crisis Intervention) with adolescents who present with suicidality.
* Complete structured psychiatric interview of new and pts awaiting reevaluation of all ages.
* Complete family sessions/therapy for pts
* Obtain collateral assessment information from families, supports, schools, police and out-patient providers to support assessment and findings
* Review patient records (medical, psychiatric, legal, medication logs, legal) to support assessment and findings.
* Assess level of safety risk to self or others that pt presents at time of evaluation
* Develop treatment plan specific to pts need for admission, commitment or discharge
* Assign diagnosis using DSM V criteria.
* Respond to all urgent patient needs dictated by ED staff (responding to all emergency/urgent pages)
* Present admission plan and sign-out data during evening rounds
* Identify and organize daily patient assignments for both APP and LCSW on team in am rounds
* Attend am sign-out with residents to inform attending and resident of assignments given, potential beds avail and clinical priorities for day
* Coordinate with Augmentative Communication Referrals regarding cognitive, linguistic, organizational and language limitations
* Coordinate all Palliative Care and Hospice Referrals
* Coordinate all patient requests for assistive equipment, in home therapy, home nursing etc.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board.Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Ability to independently plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate palliative care for ALS patients while providing outreach for the patient population. The work requires a full knowledge of research in the area of assignment, the evaluation and modification of collection methodology, assessing the needs of the project/program and making changes as appropriate. Works with multiple and/or concurrent, complex assignments and analyzing data for accuracy, validity, and integrity.Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Masters degree in Social Work and licensed in the state of North Carolina. One year of professional social work experience.Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:
