JOB LOCATION:Findley and King Elementary - Grubb YMCA
SHIFTS AVIALABLE: 2:30p-6:00p Monday - Friday
PAY RANGE: $13.50-$16.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: February 6, 2024 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Site Leader, the Youth Program Leader is responsible for assisting in the delivery of the After School child care program. This includes program activities, behavior management, safety of program participants, and evaluation. The Youth Program Leader will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment. The individual will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Ensure the safety and engagement of a group of children.
  2. Assist in planning purposeful and engaging activities complimenting the program according to the nine program components and site implementation plan.
  3. Provides assistance with homework and encourages academic progress.
  4. Follows program lesson plans and implementation plan in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  5. Provides careful, attentive supervision and is alert at all times.
  6. Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior, and understands positive youth development approaches to the development of youth.
  7. Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  8. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others. Maintains on-going communication with Program Coordinator.
  9. Communicates regularly with parents; attends parent/family events as designated by Program Coordinator.
  10. Demonstrates and supports the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. Must be at least 16 years of age (If under age 18, must be working with an adult age 18+)
  3. Approval by State of Iowa Licensing requirements including pre-employment physical
  4. Previous experience working with youth is preferred
  5. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting
  6. Intro to Y's Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting
  7. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in a classroom environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. This position works a standard work week, but additionally may work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate activities such representing the organization at events.
