Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for "dynamic, results driven" individual to join as an Advanced Power Electronics Mechanical Design Engineer. The Advanced Power Electronics Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of a team developing next generation DCDC Converters, On Board Chargers, Traction Inverters and will be responsible for the mechanical design and packaging.

Key responsibilities
  • Conceptualize, design, and execute mechanical building block designs for Power Electronics applications
  • Design responsibilities will range from study and conceptual work on advanced thermal and packaging solutions as well as being able to take a complete power electronics electrical concept involving semiconductors, capacitors, magnetics and high voltage and high current interconnections to mechanical product concepts
  • Use analytical CAE tools (Ansys, Unigraphics NX) for thermal, vibration, & fluid flow analysis
  • Translate customer specifications for package concepts
  • Work with the electrical design and manufacturing teams to design the best mechanical solutions to meet or exceed customer requirements


What we're looking for
  • BSME or BSMET with a preference for Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics packaging required. 8+ years of experience preferred
  • Solid ME CAD skills - preferably experience with Siemens Unigraphics NX
  • Experience with FEA tools including Ansys, etc.
  • Strong mechanical hardware design and analytical skills with passion for creating innovative compact and thermally efficient systems
  • Experience in automotive component reliability, failure analysis and structured problem-solving techniques is an asset
  • Experience with power device design and architecture is strongly preferred
  • Strong background in thermal design and evaluation is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience in training and mentoring preferred
  • Ability to travel 20% both domestically and internationally
