Adult Education ESL Instructor~Part-time Hourly/Night Time
Salary:  $35.00 per hour (or per the 2023-2024 Salary Schedule)
RIVEROAK Technical College
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1)                 Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
(2)                 Certified by the State of Florida in any area.
(3)                 Or other appropriate certification required by the Florida Department of Education.
(4)                 Satisfactory criminal background check.
               
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of child development.  Knowledge of special needs of other-language students and familiarity with cultural differences.  Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.  Knowledge of current educational research.  Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology.  Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.  Ability to plan, prioritize and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.  Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.  Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.  Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.

JOB GOAL
To meet the requirements of the Consent Decree for English for Speakers of Other Languages by assisting students in acquiring the necessary language skills to successfully meet the educational and social challenges of their English speaking environment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Planning/Preparations
* (1)             Establish short- and long-range goals based on student needs and district and state curriculum requirements for English language acquisition.
* (2)             Plan and prepare lessons and strategies which support the School Improvement Plan and District mission.
* (3)             Plan and prepare lessons which are meaningful and engaging.
* (4)             Plan and prepare instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
 
* (5)             Identify, select and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
* (6)             Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and plans for improvement.
Administrative/Management
* (7)             Maintain up-to-date student ESOL folders as required.
* (8)             Establish and maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
* (9)             Manage time effectively.
* (10)         Develop routines and efficient techniques for minimizing time required for administrative and organizational activities.
* (11)         Manage materials and equipment effectively.
* (12)         Assist in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policies.
* (13)         Use technology resources effectively.
* (14)         Establish and maintain a positive, organized, and safe learning environment.
* (15)         Establish and use behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.
Assessment/Evaluation
* (16)         Administer entry and exit testing for ESOL program with accompanying paperwork and post reclassification reviews with assistance and support from instructional and guidance staff.
* (17)         Review records from previous school for LEP students.
* (18)         Assist in administration of statewide assessments for ESOL students
* (19)         Interpret and use data (including, but not limited to, standardized and other test results)  to assist classroom teachers.
* (20)         Communicate, in understandable terms, individual student progress knowledgeably and responsibly to the student, parents, and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
* (21)         Administer standardized tests in accordance with directions provided, including proctoring and secure handling of materials.
Intervention/Direct Services
* (22)         Assist LEP students as needed to  promote understandable instruction.
* (23)         Provide language arts instruction to LEP students at designated schools.
* (24)         Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum content.
* (25)         Apply principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery.
* (26)         Use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and special needs.
* (27)         Use appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.
* (28)         Provide appropriate instruction and modifications for students with special needs.
* (29)         Provide quality work for students which is focused on meaningful relevant and engaging learning experiences.
* (30)         Provide instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.
* (31)         Foster student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others, by role modeling and learning activities.
* (32)         Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.
 
Technology
* (33)         Use appropriate technology in instructional delivery.
* (34)         Technology to establish an atmosphere of active learning.
* (35)         Provide students with opportunities to use technology to gather and share information with others.
* (36)         Facilitate student access to the use of electronic resources.
* (37)         Explore and evaluate new technologies and their educational impact.
* (38)         Use technology to review student assessment data.
* (39)         Use technology for administrative tasks
Collaboration
* (40)         Assist the classroom teacher to help interpret lessons for LEP students.
* (41)         Provide Home School communication in Spanish.
* (42)         Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents, and community.
* (43)         Collaborate with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs.
Staff Development
* (44)         Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
* (45)         Assist others in acquiring knowledge and understanding of particular area of responsibility.
* (46)         Keep abreast of developments in instructional methodology, learning theory, curriculum trends, and content.
* (47)         Develop and implement an Individual Professional Development Plan and Needs Assessment in accordance with state and district requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
* (48)         Model professional and ethical conduct and adhere at all times to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct.
* (49)         Perform all professional responsibilities.
* (50)         Prepare  required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
* (51)         Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
* (52)         Support school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programs.
* (53)         Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
* (54)         Demonstrate punctuality, regular attendance, and carry out assigned duties.
* (55)         Shall assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
Student Growth and Achievement
* (56)         Ensure that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or student program classification.  Indicators may include: results from state and local criterion and norm referenced standardized tests, portfolio assessment, analysis reports, and others as deemed appropriate by the District and/or required by adopted curriculum standards.
* (57)         Establish and maintain a positive collaborative relationship with the students' families to increase student achievement.
 
 
*Essential Performance Responsibilities
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  
                Light Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
               
EVALUATION:                               
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
