We're actively seeking a talented Actuarial Analyst I to join our Annuity Hedging team in Newport Beach. This role can be on-site or hybrid if based in Southern California.
As a hedging actuary, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by developing, executing, and reporting on the hedge program, and supporting hedging strategy analysis.
How you'll make an impact:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and operation of VA hedging programs
- Perform day-to-day operations and analysis of the VA hedging program in an efficient, timely and error-free manner
- Assist in new hedging strategy development and refinements to existing practices to strengthen mitigation of financial risks associated with the business
- Proactively identify issues/areas of improvement to facilitate better model efficiency and governance with an emphasis on innovation
- Collaborate with Valuation, Finance, Projection and Product teams to support relevant hedging activity
- Assess and improve development, use and documentation of financial models and modeling practices relative to company-wide Model Risk Management policies and standards
- Maintain active status in the Actuarial Student Program
The experience you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, finance, mathematics or related field or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of related work experience with at least 3 SOA exams passed toward the ASA designation
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
- Effective organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and detail oriented
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
What will make you stand out:
- Proficient knowledge of Python or another programming language
- Prior experience with VA or FIA hedging
- Experience using Prophet or another actuarial modeling software

- SQL, Snowflake, Python, Tableau, Prophet, Microsoft Office

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted provides a basis to determine the appropriate offer dependent upon several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, skills, education and pay equity. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$83,000.00 - $103,800.00 - $135,000.00
