JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Technician will perform general accounting and clerical duties in support of the Accounting Department and other departments, including the Mayor's Office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Process Accounts Payable which includes: processing all County invoices for assigned funds and/or matching invoices and paperwork to purchase orders in an accurate, efficient and timely manner; processing Electronic Funds Transfer payments as needed; and performing edits for weekly payments;
- Coordinate fixed asset program for the County which includes: monitoring the policies, procedures and forms used for recording fixed assets; tracking the acquisition and disposal of fixed assets in the system; and collaborating with departments to ensure purchases are captured in the system;
- Review, convert and outpost Purchase Card (P-Card) transactions and reconcile Purchase Card statements to the bank statement; and monitor open Purchase Orders monthly;
- Review and process Travel Reimbursements and Advances;
- Coordinates and processes special billing programs;
- Provide backup to the Accounts Receivable staff as needed;
- Assist with special projects by researching and preparing reports as requested by the Finance Director and/or Assistant Finance Director in support of operations and the annual audit;
- Provide excellent customer service to employees, county departments, elected official's offices and the general public; and
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
- Associate's Degree;
- Three (3) years of related experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Knowledge of departmental practices and systems.
- Skillful using small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skillful using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service.
- Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
