Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of tasks involved in building maintenance. Make repairs to campus buildings, systems, and equipment to include, but not limited to, underground piping system, building piping, fixtures, swimming pools, kitchens, sewers, and campus water main distribution systems. The position is considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.
SUPERVISION:
This position reports to the Supervisor of Mechanics and will receive day-to-day guidance direction and supervision from the Assistant Supervisor of Mechanics.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years or 3,000 hours of mechanical experience in at least one skilled area. Familiarity with regulatory codes, schematics and blueprints, and ability to perform installation and repair. Good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently with some supervision, and the ability to lift and carry 80 lbs. Experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing devices, a valid Driver's License and adherence to the requirements set forth by the Office of Risk Management, and the ability to respond to calls twenty-four hours per day seven days per week is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor/outdoor environment. The incumbent must be able to operate power/hand tools used in day-to-day operation of duties. The incumbent may be required to use scaffolding, lifts, climb ladders, and stand for long periods of time while using power/hand tools and equipment. Personal Protection Equipment, safety shoes and specialized clothing may be required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Respond to service requests from members of the Campus Community to provide assistance with minor maintenance needs including clogged sinks and toilets, leaking pipes, boiler alarms, temperature concerns, broken keys, inoperative locks, tripped breakers, etc.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, sewer and drainage piping, urinals, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, gas fired equipment, and processing tanks.
- Read and follow basic schematics and blueprints.
- Participate in the preventative maintenance of all Plumbing equipment.
- Operate a variety of equipment; participate in making minor repairs to keep equipment operational; inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work.
- Assist in ensuring security of vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
- Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.
- Engage in a Professional Development plan. Participate in workshops, seminars, and training sessions to remain in compliance with state and federal regulations and changing technology Participate in meetings as directed.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
