Job description

Clinton High School is looking for a 21st Century Teacher. This position is a certified regular education teacher position that that works in conjunction with a special education teacher and assistant in a non-traditional classroom designed to meet the needs of "at-risk" general and special education students in grades 9-12. The teacher will be responsible for meeting the academic and emotional needs of those students who haven't been successful in a general education classroom.
Duties include:

  • Responsible for registration of all 21st Century students (and forwarding information to guidance)
  • Develop lesson plans aligned to State standards in teacher's endorsement area for large-group teaching/learning, in addition to providing assistance in all subject areas for the remainder of the class day while consistently evaluating and tracking academic progress of all students
  • Manage the diverse ability levels of students; adapt and reassess lesson plans/curriculum to meet specific student needs while maintaining overall class progress; identify problem areas that need attention and improvement; reteach concepts not mastered; provide opportunities to improve grades (re-do missed items on assignments and tests, abbreviated assignments upon mastery to motivate student confidence, etc.)
  • Provide students with due dates for completion in all class blocks; monitor learning and student adherence to due date expectations (for textbook and online learning); conduct reading/math interventions when needed; close monitoring of students who are given extended time
  • Serve as case manager for SPED folders including but not limited to the following: conducting meetings, maintaining PLOPs, collecting data for progress monitoring, etc
  • Communicate with any and all other staff members who engage with students, including transition case manager, mental health therapists, SPED mentor, etc.
  • Assist guidance in student scheduling, credit-recovery needs, and reviewing academic history to make sure credit requirements for graduation are being met and are documented in Skyward
  • Be responsible for maintaining students' attendance and grades in Skyward
  • Maintain order and discipline among students while promoting safety and compliance with school rules and guidelines established by principals
  • Provide a safe, positive learning environment through flexibility, patience, and lots of empathy for students who have not succeeded with strict rules and classroom rigidity; must possess adaptable teaching practices, creative problem-solving skills and the ability to establish rapport with students' families
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis, including presenting student progress reports, informing parents of declining grades due to missing assignments or informing them of requisite student discipline
  • Manage schedule in an all-day classroom where arrival/dismissal times, days of attendance, and daily schedules deviate from the regular school day and are dependent upon accommodations for each student per IEP (or per K. Towe for general education students)

Dual certification in general education and special education is highly preferred.
