1 on 1 Instructional Paraprofessional
Position Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member, the paraprofessional will assist licensed professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives for students who are at-risk and for students with individualized education plans.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists and guides students to content-area and functional skills
- Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
- Supports students' transitions within the classroom and building.
- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on-task.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising lunch, within and outside of the school building.
- Constructs, copies and distribute and use educational materials as needed.
- Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize success and achievement of IEP goals and objectives.
- Assist students with activities of daily living, including toileting, eating, etc. for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
-Substitute as needed when assigned student or group is absent.
-Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts presented by staff members.
-Enforce administrative policies and rules governing students, including those found within the handbook.
-Collaborate and prepare with classroom teachers and other staff in order to coordinate instructional plans for students.
-Re-teach subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers using multiple methods.
-Use of computers, other technology, and other equipment and materials necessary for student and teacher support.
-Attend staff meetings and professional development as needed/requested.
-Assist students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities, such as the restroom.
-Implement therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and sensory breaks under the supervision of special education personnel.
-Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:
- Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use computers and software applications when necessary (e.g., Google Suite).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and parents/guardians.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to deal with others in stressful situations.
- Ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee occasionally must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee occasionally will be required to lift up to 25 pounds such as cartons of paper. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to tell differences among colors. The employee will work in school buildings and community-based settings.
The noise level in the work environment varies. The employee continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people. The majority of the work is performed indoors.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Paraprofessional license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: Based on PSRP contract. $19.50/hour.
