Position Summary
The Program/Activities Coordinator is responsibility for assisting in the operation of camps activities in summer camp program needs. This position will also work with guest services as a host from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Encourage the professional and spiritual growth staff under your care.
- Assist in maintaining ACA and CCCA accreditation standards as well as the preparation of all necessary reports - many of these accreditations are based upon programmatic elements.
- The Activities Coordinator has 3 main functions - 1. Assist in leading camp activities to our many guest groups 2. Assist our Guest Service dept. in hosting groups. 3. Assisting our program dept. in summer prep and take an active leadership role in the summer programs.
- Activities (ropes course, bike program, swimming, hiking, target activities etc…)
- the activities dept. in the design, execution, and evaluation of Camp activities that meet the needs and interests of the camp target populations and ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
- Gain certificates to assist in leading camps ropes course, pools, bikes, and other activities offered.
- Responsible to assist in the creation and implement activates to guest groups.
- Responsible to ensure that activities are being done safely and efficiently, following rules and accreditation.
- Guest Services: Host guest groups according to hosing task list
- Summer Program
- Assist the Program Manager/ Divisional Camp Director / DYS’s in the design, execution, and evaluation of camp programs that meet the needs and interests of the camp target populations, to ensure the mission of camp (fun, safe, God) is being accomplished.
- Work with Divisional Camp Director and DYS’s in the planning, daily operation, and coordination of the summer resident camps.
- Work to connect youth with Corps (utilizing program like Angel Tree) to aid Corps in the process to fill their summer camper allocations.
- in the planning and provide oversight for summer camp staff training/orientation. The purpose is to train the summer staff for their ministry positions while organizing an orientation week that trains according to our mission (fun, safe, God).
- Takes a lead role and in conjunction with DYS’s and Camp Director in hiring summer staff who are the right fit for Christian Ministry at camp.
- Work with Camp Director (DYS) to implement, evaluate, and oversee summer discipleship program.
- Take a leadership role in during summer ministries.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities, camper and staff behavior.
- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing or walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis as needed to perform necessary duties.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.
- Must have ability to work well independently in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
- Combination of college education, training and experience in the camping industry.
- Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- A team player; must work well with others.
- Experience in supervision of staff.
- Must have good communication skills, and pay close attention to detail.
- Required to have a thorough knowledge of building policies, procedures and event requirements.
- Word processing experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel especially valuable.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the particular camp program in session, you may be asked to assist in other duties not directly listed in this job description. This is necessary for a smooth operation of camp. Staff members are expected to be flexible and cooperate cheerfully.
