Job description

Medical Epidemiologist
The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between the government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City (NYC).
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The NYC Department of Health (DOHMH) has established a Long COVID-19 working group, including staff from multiple divisions and bureaus within the agency, to plan and implement programs and policies to address the impact of Long COVID-19 in NYC. The working group has 4 focus areas (surveillance and epidemiology, provider engagement, community outreach, and policy), in various stages of development. The Medical Epidemiologist will play a key role in planning and implementation in all areas with funding through July 2024, with possible extension contingent upon funding. This position reports to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This position is currently being hired as a temporary position, with the potential to transition to a full-time position, contingent upon funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be tasked with a range of responsibilities listed below, with the understanding that the time allocated to each will be contingent on current needs of the workgroup and may shift over time.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and resources on Long COVID-19 related to clinical manifestations and diagnosis, quality of life impacts, prevention, and treatment.
  • Work with Provider Engagement team in the CMO office to develop provider and patient education resources (screening tools, documentation guides, webinars, webpages, etc.) and tools and provide strategic direction for CME, symposia, and trainings.
  • Provide consultation to and review of content related to:
  • Division of Epidemiology’s design, implementation, and analysis of Long COVID-19 related studies, including cross sectional annual surveys and longitudinal cohort studies.
  • Community outreach and training materials across various CHECW Bureaus and nurse call line
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all workgroup activities (content in surveys and resource referral for cohort participants, nurse call line guidance, provider materials, community health work training).
  • Assist with project planning and management, including facilitating Long COVID working group meetings, information management of resources and materials to ensure team is up to date on new content, and reporting to leadership on plan and progress.
  • Contribute, when requested, to grant writing or other funding/resource procurement efforts to establish longer term programming.
Qualifications
  • Required
  • Clinical degree or advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, or other health-related field
  • 3-5 years of experience with project management, preferably in a research setting
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and writing skills
  • Comfort with interpreting and synthesizing data from a variety of sources
  • Experience in design and implementation of clinical/provider education resources
  • Preferred
  • Experience working with COVID-19 and Long COVID patients
SALARY
  • Salary range is $120,000 to $140,000.
